The legend of numberless ships

The numberless Pier – K15 belongs to the tourist area in Van Huong Ward of Do Son District, Hai Phong City. The pier is known as the starting point of numberless ships on secret missions to transport military tools and weapons to the Southern battlefield during years of fighting against American empire.

On October 23rd, 1961, the Minister of National Defense decided to establish 759 Shipping Delegation (now known as 125 Navy Brigade) that marked the birth of the Ho Chi Minh strategic shipping route at sea. That event marked the beginning of stories of such special ships.

Behind the Navy Museum is a place to keep a very special historical item. It is the only existing ship of the unnumbered ships, named HQ-671. That was one of the ships that made the most achievements in our nation’s resistance combat against the American empire.

60 years have passed since the first numberless ship departed from the Pier K15 to transport weapons to serve for the big battlefield in the South. Time can make the pier no longer intact, masts rotten and hulls rusty, but the legend of the maritime route named after Uncle Ho has still endured with time.

Each ship leaving the pier was a time facing storms and dangers, but soldiers of the “numberless” boat were still bravely confronting extremely destroying tactics of the enemy and were willing to sacrifice themselves to protect goods and the secret maritime route.

Before each departure, the soldiers of the numberless ships directly attended the memorial ceremony for themselves and their teammates; they were willing to become unknowns, no name, no places of birth, silently implementing confidential missions for the sake of the beloved South and for the cause of national unification. The numberless ships named HQ-671, has become a legend in the battle of Viet Nam’s soldiers and people against the American empire. The boat is currently on display at the Naval Museum of Hai Phong. It is not only a heroic historical vestige of the Naval Museum and people of the port city but also a pride of the whole country./.
