Technical Traffic Opening Ceremony at Rao Bridge

On January 25 afternoon, the City People’s Committee organized the Technical Traffic Opening Ceremony of Rao Bridge under the Rao Bridge Investment and Construction Project.

The ceremony was attended by central and local leaders: Mr. Le Van Thanh, member of the Central Party, Depty Prime Minister; Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, member of the Central Party, Chairman of the State Capital Management at Enterprises; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dong, Deputy Minister of Transport; Mr. Tran Duy Dong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, and members of the Government Office.

Announcing the technical opening, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the City People’s Committee held that during recent years, the city had witnessed a strong socio-economic development with remarkable breakthrough, increasingly high revenue, laying firm foundation for the city’s development in in socio-economic infrastructure, in which transport infrastructure system had particularly been invested synchronously and modernly. On behalf of the city’s leaders, the Chairman of the City People’s Committee expressed his honor and gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, Ministries, and Central departments for their attention and direction during the project implementation. He also acknowledged and applauded relevant departments, agencies, units, localities, investors and contractors for their attempts during the clear clearance and construction implementation.

To soon complete the remaining works of the projects, Chairman of the City People’s Committee requested contractors to accelerate the construction progress to complete the bridge and traffic intersection in April 2022, to complete pavement embelishment in 2022. Besides, the Chairman required Ngo Quyen and Le Chan Districts to continue and complete land clearance in June 2022 as well as ask households located on two sides of Lach Tray street for soon relocation for the project implementation.

The old Rao Bridge was built 40 years ago and was completed in 1980. After collapsing in the middle of 1987, the bridge had been upgraded and accomplished in 1989 with steel structure of 186 meters long and 11 meters wide. Under the increasing pressure of traffic and the bridge’s inappropriacy to the city’s landscape, the city had decided to replace the old bridge with a new and more modern one. On October 13, 2020, the Prime Minister with leaders of Ministries, Central departments and the city pressed start button to kick off Rao Bridge construction with a total investment of over 2,200 billion dong, with 02 categories: the bridge and traffic intersection with an investment of over 1.500 billion dong; expansion and embellishment of Lach Tray Street’s pavements with an investment of over 700 billion dong. The bridge and paths were constructed with eternal concrete and arches structuresof 30.5 meters wide, which was triple the old bridge’s width. The bridge was built crossing the river and Bui Vien Street, with a length of 456.5 meters, which was twice the old bridge’s length. The path in the South runs straight, connecting with Pham Van Dong Street, with a length of 91 meters; 02 sides of the bridge and the side facing the river are green parks, with planted flamboyant trees and bombax ceiba trees – traditional trees of Hai Phong City. The path in the North and 02 roundabout branches with a length of 466 meters, 02 roundabout branches in a length of 344 meters, planted with golden-leaf trees and planted with green anchor-shaped trees all year round, well depicting symbol of Hai Phong Port City.

Rao Bridge was designed with the symbol “Far reaching waves”, showing the city’s spirit and aspiration for further growth. The bridge was a highlight for the city’s architecture, landscape at the City’s North gateway, contributing to the city’s civilized and modern urban appearance. After 13 months of construction with the joint effort of the city, investors, localities, contractors as well as theagreement and support of inhabitants in the land clearance, the bridge and traffic intersectio had been now basically completed on time to serve people during Lunar Tet holidays 2022. The work of Lach Tray Street’s pavements expansion and embellishment of 2.34km long and 5 meter wide at least from the foot of the bridge to Thanh Doi intersection had been pushed up, . The expansion was conducted in alignment with power and drainage systems improvement./.
