Webinar between Haiphong Department of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Division of Incheon Metropolitan City Government (South Korea)

Under the sister-city framework between Haiphong City (Vietnam) and Incheon Metropolitan City (South Korea), in the afternoon of April 01st 2021, Haiphong Department of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Division of Incheon Metropolitan City co-hosted the webinar in which representatives of both sides’ leadership and international cooperation divisions.

At the meeting, the both sides shared information on preparation work for the virtual launch on the cities’ photos on Instagram on April 01st of 2021, and on their official websites. Observing closely the situation evolved to COVID-19, Haiphong Department of Foreign Affairs intends to implement photo exhibition on Incheon that will be expectedly occur at Haiphong’s downtown strip on occasion of 2021Flamboyant Festival to enhance public understanding about Incheon Metropolitan City which has been in sister-city relationship with Haiphong City.

At the meeting, International Cooperation Division of Incheon Metropolitan City shared current work of COVID-19 control and prevention, and vaccination implementation at the city. Indeed, according to International Cooperation Division’s statistics, by March 31st 2021, Incheon had only 27 positive cases in a total number of 506 positive cases occurring across South Korea. Incheon has been deploying vaccination since February 26th 2021, and by March 31st 2021, Incheon accomplished vaccination to 68.2% of professional and health workers and patients in hospitals and mental health and rehabilitation facilities. Incheon side also shared information about key projects implementation in 2021 that focuses on green economy, bio hub, and electronic money card (named e-EUM Card) supporting livelihood of Incheon citizens amidst COVID-19 pandemic.

Haiphong Department of Foreign Affairs informed the counterpart its preparation, work with Korea Embassy at Hanoi, and other related units implementing Korean teaching and learning at high-school level at the city area; and requested participation from Incheon supporting enhancement of teaching and learning capacity at Haiphong ongoing time, and giving a suggestive view on that Incheon does connection with KOICA to enlist resources for implementation of the aforementioned activity.

The two sides also discussed implementation of linking district(s) under administration of the two cities to facilitate potential exploration and fruitfully bilateral cooperation. To add, Incheon proposed continuation of sharing effective practice experiences gained by the two cities in eco-social development, and of implementing cooperative contents in fields of health care and treatment of child patients of Haiphong City under framework of the MoU on cooperation enhancement signed in 2019.

Last but not least, the both sides agreed deployment of specific measures in order to strengthen effectively mutual cooperation in cultural exchange, human resource training and fostering, considering enterprises connection of the both sides in understanding potentials and cooperative demands, and online promotion sessions for entrepreneurs operating at Incheon have interested in investment attraction environment at the area of Haiphong City./.
