Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam working with the Mission of the International Union for Conservation of Nature

On the afternoon of October 29, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam hosted a meeting with the Mission of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) led by Ms. Aberg Ellen Ulrikaregarding nomination documents forthe World Natural Heritage of the complex of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago. Representatives of relevant departments and agencies also attended that meeting.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the conditions and processes for the assessment of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago Heritage, which were demonstrated not only by the outstanding global values but also by the integrity and measures for heritage’s protection. The results of the mission’s field trip will be an important factor in helping IUCN has a scientific and practical basis to make recommendations to the World Heritage Committee before its approval of the nomination at the annual meeting in 2022.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam expressed his pleasure at IUCN Mission’s visit to Hai Phong and its field trip to Ha Long Bay – Cat Ba Archipelago in the context of the complicated development of the COVID-19 epidemic. He emphasized that: The recognition of the complex of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago as a “World Natural Heritage" will make an important contribution to ensure the environmental sustainability set out in the Millennium Development Goals by the United Nations. Up to now, the nomination document has met the technical requirements, Hai Phong city committed to implement specific activities with the determination to protect and bring out the best of the heritage’s value and integrity in the coming time. At the same time, Vice Chairman Le Khac Nam requested relevant departments and agencies to try their best to carry out their assigned tasks, organize a field survey program which were suitable to the actual situation, support the experts to grasp and observe the current status, outstanding and endemic values ​​of the heritage nomination Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Islands.
