Overseas compatriots overcome covid 19 epidemic together with the whole country

Vietnamese communities all over the world not only encouraged, supported each other to cope with Covid-19 epidemic and stabilize the life, but also paid attention to the home country and joined hands to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic.

On 20, September, the State Committee of Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) received money and items with a total amount of nearly 824 million VND from Vietnamese communities in Korea, Germany and Macao (China) for supporting Covid-19 prevention and control tasks in the country.

Towards the homeland

Mr. Do Xuan Hoang, Chairman of Vietnamese Association at Russia shared that in comparison with the world, Russia is the country with the high rate of deaths and patients due to Covid-19.

In this context, Vietnamese community in Russia has been coping with many difficulties. People encouraged and supported each other to overcome this epidemic to resume manufacturing and business, especially restarting the football league in 2021 in order to strengthen the solidarity among the community.

Responding to the call of Vietnamese Communist Party, State and Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee, the community has implemented a supporting project “Together with Viet Nam” and after a half month, the compatriots in 26 provinces, cities contributed about 130,000 USD.

According to Mrs. Phan Bich Thien, Chairman of Vietnamese Women Union in Hungary, Vietnamese community in Hungary has coped with many challenges due to the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic worldwide

Vietnamese Women Union in Hungary supported the members and local people by many activities such as creating groups to popularize information about local authority’s policies on Covid-19 prevention and control, organizing to deliver food, necessities to the families that have F0 patients who are self-treat.

This Union also called for supporting people in Ho Chi Minh city and other southern provinces that was calculated more than 20,000 Euro up to now.

According to a Political report at XII Party Congress, it is necessary to have policies to call for support from overseas Vietnamese people to contribute actively for thecareer in construction and defense of the country.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Ba Phuc, Chairman of Vietnamese Businessmen Community in Australia said that in spite of being far away from home, Vietnamese communities in Australia are always very concerned about Covid-19 situation in the country. Vietnamese overseas in Australia had practical activities to support fund of Covid-19 prevention and control vaccine as well as epidemic prevention and control tasks in the country.

In addition, Vietnamese Businessmen Community in Australia is making efforts to call Australia’s government to aid vaccine and to support Viet Nam in buying vaccine produced in Australia.

The above is only three among many stories shared in the conference hosted at the end of August with the attendance of the Central Committee of Viet Nam Fatherland Front and Overseas Vietnamese Unions.

In memory of the homeland

Besides the Unions’ activities, many overseas Vietnamese also had many useful actions towards the homeland. For instance, Mr. David Duong, Chairman of California Waste Solution Company and Limited Liability Waste Treatment Company Viet Nam donated 250 ventilators.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Phuc, the Founder cum Chairman and General Director of Metran, also Chairman of overseas Vietnamese in Japan, the inventor of Hummingbird high-frequency artificial ventilator, - MV20 ventilator, supported 2000 MV20 to Vietnam. The lawyer Vo Duc Duy, an overseas Vietnamese in the US negotiated to buy and then donated 500,000 doses of Moderna vaccine to people in Ho Chi Minh City.

Appreciating the responsibility and love for the homeland by the contribution of materials and spirit to develop country’s economy, specially supporting in Covid-19 prevention and control, Chairman of Central Committee of Viet Nam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien said: “The companionship and enthusiasm of overseas Vietnamese on all national journeys stems derived from patriotism and always looking forward to the homeland”. “Despite the distance of thousands of miles, the origin of the Dragon Fairy will never fade”. It is clearly shows that good culture and traditions of Vietnamese people, such as “the tree has roots, the river has its resource”

“To love the people who are of the same homeland”. This is valuable love, Mr. Do Van Chien emphasized.

According to the leader of the Fatherland Front Committee, from 31 December 2010 to the middle of August 2021, overseas Vietnamese from 27 nations invested 362 FDI projects in Viet Nam with a total registered capital up to 1.6 billion USD.

According to a socio-economic report of XIII Congress of Party, it is necessary to implement protection tasks for overseas Vietnamese and promote overseas Vietnamese to join hands for country’s development.

During the 5 - year period from 2016-2020, total remittances were more than 88 billion USD and total amount of money from overseas Vietnamese supporting the country in fighting against epidemics and natural disasters was more than 100 billion USD along with many items and medical equipment.

To strengthen the power of solidarity of the nationwide

The above impressive numbers were the results of “strong and comprehensive implementation of overseas Vietnamese tasks according to the direction and steering of the XIII Congress of Party”

According to the political report at Congress, it is necessary to have policies to attract Vietnamese overseas resources to contribute positively for the work of construction and defense of the country.

According to the socio-economic report, the effective implementation of overseas Vietnamese defense tasks and exploitation the Vietnamese overseas resources turned out to contribute to the country’s development.

The Party appreciated the role of overseas Vietnamese communities as well as directed to take advantage of the compatriot resource including economic resources such as investment, remittances, intellectual and soft resources like construction of national brand, broadcasting Vietnamese culture, ect.

This is also the concretization of the Party’s direction about “enhancing patriotism, the willingness to strengthen the nation’s self-defense, the power of solidarity nationwide and the desire to develop the country to be happy and prosperous”.

Recently, Central Committee of Viet Nam Fatherland Front and State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) has boosted information, propaganda tasks to overseas Vietnamese s about Party’s direction and State’s law policies, to clearly understand the right desires and proposals of overseas Vietnamese then proposed the authorities, Party, State and National Assembly to develop, perfect the policies and monitor the implementation of policies related to overseas Vietnamese to secure the legal rights of these people.

It is necessary to mobilize overseas Vietnamese to actively participate in patriotic campaigns as well as socio- economic develoment and construction work of the homeland.

In the difficult context in which overseas Vietnamese have been suffered from the Covid 19 epidemic, Central Commitee of Viet Nam Fatherland Front cooperated with State Commitee on Overseas Vietnam Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) supported 4 billion VND for Vietnamese communities in 4 countries: Lao, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia to overcome the difficulties, and implemented necessary tasks to strengthen overseas Vietnamese’ solidarity as well as take care of legal rights for overseas Vietnamese communities.

According to Mr. Pham Quang Hieu - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of State Commitee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, aims atthe implementation the Conclusion No.12-KL/TW of the Politburo about tasks related to overseas Vietnamese in the new situation, State Commitee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) have been cooperating with the Ministry of Education and Training in order to standardize the textbook system; collaborating with overseas Vietnamese Unions to improve the teaching forms by online studying and teaching so that Vietnamese language can be approached to Vietnamese communities abroad and not being delayed in the epidemic situation.

For supporting compatriats communities in enhancing legal status, Mr. Hieu said that in the next time, Staff Commitee on Oversea Vietnam Affairs would research, collect the compatriats’ issues to correct and add more suitably.

Regarding the work of supporting the overseas Vietnamese community to improve their legal status, Mr. Hieu said that in the coming time, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese will survey and gather the problems of overseas Vietnamese to recommend authorities for appropriate amendments and supplements.

The Chairman of Central Committee of Viet Nam Fatherland Front, Mr. Do Van Chien said that Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee would closely cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairsand relevant agencies to continue promoting the work of overseas Vietnamese to become more and more practical. quality, efficiency, better meet the expectations and needs of expatriates.
