Vietnamese Top Legislator Meets Foreign Leaders on Sidelines of AIPA-43

Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue had meetings with several foreign leaders on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-43) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue had a meeting with Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia (Upper House of the Russian parliament), in Phnom Penh on November 22, VNA reported.

The Vietnamese top legislator affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to its strategic partnership with Russia, and wants to promote bilateral cooperation towards greater effectiveness, meeting the interests of both sides.

The Russian legislator noted the strong development of the Russia-Vietnam strategic partnership and expressed a wish for stronger ties between the parliaments of the two countries, first of all the exchange of visits. He said he hopes to early welcome NA Chairman Hue to Russia.

The two sides agreed to continue pushing economic, trade and investment cooperation in fields that suit both countries’ needs and strengths.

Hue said the 15th Vietnamese NA will work closely with the Federation Council of Russia to increase the exchange of visits by their leaders and committees.

He said Vietnam has closely followed the situation in Ukraine and reiterated Vietnam’s consistent stance that all disputes should be settled by peaceful means in accordance with basic principles of international law and the UN Charter.

He wished that concerned parties early end the conflict and resume dialogue.

Earlier on November 21, Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue met Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament Tan Chuan-jin, Speaker of the Azerbaijani NA Sahiba Gafarova, Deputy Chairman of the Representatives Chambers of the Belarusian NA Valeriy Vatslavovich Mitskevich and President of the Thai NA Chuan Leekpai.

In his meeting with Tan Chuan-jin, Hue affirmed that Vietnam treasures and wishes to further develop its strategic partnership with Singapore.

The two countries’ resumption of high-level delegation exchanges after the Covid-19 pandemic has contributed to creating new motivation for bilateral cooperation and post-pandemic socio-economic recovery, he added.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties and the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership, the two sides agreed to maintain the exchange of high-ranking and all-level delegations in all channels, organise parliamentary cooperation activities, and expand collaboration in digital and green economy.

Receiving Sahiba Gafarova, Hue expressed his hope that they will have more meetings and contacts bilaterally and on the sidelines of regional and international inter-parliamentary forums, given that this is the first-ever meeting of the top leaders of the two countries’ NAs.

Vietnam always attaches importance to its relations with traditional friends, including Azerbaijan, and appreciates the country’s great and precious support for Vietnam’s past struggle for national independence as well as its present nation building and development cause.

There remains an ample room for bilateral cooperation in various fields, Hue stated, appreciating the two sides’ coordination and support at multilateral parliamentary cooperation mechanisms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

He expressed his hope to boost cooperation between the two NAs to make it one of the important pillars in the bilateral relations.

Sahiba Gafarova said she is delighted to meet her Vietnamese counterpart in the context of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties, considering it a chance to discuss measures to strengthen the traditional friendship.

During Hue’s meeting with Valeriy Vatslavovich Mitskevich, he affirmed Vietnam always treasures its relations with traditional friends, including Belarus.

To deepen the bilateral cooperation, the two sides agreed to intensify cooperation in economics, trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people exchanges; and consider parliamentary collaboration an important channel in the Vietnam-Belarus relations.

Valeriy Vatslavovich Mitskevich took the occasion to congratulate Vietnam on its election to the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The Vietnamese, Thai top legislators expressed their delights at growing relations between Vietnam and Thailand over the past time and noted that the nations’ exchange of delegations at all levels and bilateral cooperation mechanisms have been maintained effectively.

The ties between the two NAs have been sustained and developed soundly, they said, appreciating Thai parliamentarians’ support for strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand.

For the 10th anniversary of the countries’ strategic partnership in 2023, both sides agreed to increase the exchange of all-level delegations; between the two legislative bodies; between the two peoples.

Hue took the occasion to thank Thailand for creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community there and proposed such assistance be continued. He invited the Thai NA leader to visit Vietnam in an appropriate time.
