Vietnamese Goods Week at Aeon supermarkets in Japan

The Vietnamese Goods Week at the Aeon supermarkets system in Japan is an annual activity co-hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Hanoi People’s Committee and Japan’s Aeon Group.

The event is among the programs to realize the project of boosting Vietnamese enterprises to directly participate in the foreign distribution system, aiming to bringing the export turnover of Vietnamese goods into the Aeon system to 1 billion USD by 2025.

Vietnamese Goods Week 2021 took place from June 25 to 27 at Aeon Lake Town trade center in Saitama prefecture (main location) and at 350 stores in Aeon Group’s retail chain in Japan. The program is also implemented throughout the online sales system of Aeon Group.

According to the Hanoi Promotion Agency, the program has so far supported more than 100 businesses from 21 provinces and cities across the country to promote and introduce products to Japanese consumers.

Through the event, many standard products have been imported by Aeon Group and sold at hundreds of supermarkets in Aeon’s system. Many Vietnamese enterprises are also cooperating with Aeon Group to produce goods for export to Japan.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Anh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Promotion Agency, said that the COVID-19 epidemic situation was quite complicated, affecting the organization of the program. However, to continue implementing the commitment in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Vietnam and Aeon Group, while ensuring the continuity of the program, from the beginning of 2021, the organizers have developed a new implementation plan to adapt to the situation.

Accordingly, they organized the program in stores and on online platforms in order to continue promoting products and images of Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular to Japanese people.

In particular, besides the products displayed for sale such as agricultural products, food, aquatic products, textiles, footwear, household and appliances, fresh lychee continues to be the highlight of the Week. Since 2019, after being permitted to be imported into Japan, the fruit with distinctive flavor loved by Japanese people has been widely sold throughout Aeon’s supermarket system and other stores. To serve the week, Aeon has imported about 30 tons of lychee from Bac Giang and Hai Duong.

In order to continue to increase Vietnam’s export turnover through Aeon’s distribution channel, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Hanoi People’s Committee and Aeon Group will continue to introduce more and more high-quality products and attractive culinary dishes of Vietnam to Japanese consumers at the Vietnamese Goods Week for the following years./.
