Vietnam Strengthens Ties with Japan as a Leading Partner
During an official visit to Japan on December 4, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn held talks with Japanese leaders, emphasizing Vietnam’s view of Japan as a leading and long-term partner.
In a meeting with Nukaga Fukushiro, Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn highlighted the strong political trust and frequent high-level exchanges marking Vietnam-Japan relations. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation through cultural exchanges, tourism, and local partnerships.
Both leaders recognized parliamentary cooperation as a key pillar in bilateral relations. They committed to enhancing exchanges between parliamentarians, particularly young and female legislators, and strengthening the role of Parliamentary Friendship Alliances to foster business collaboration and people-to-people ties. Agreements were made to improve legal frameworks, ensuring favorable conditions for businesses from both countries to expand investment and cooperation.
Both sides discussed about expanding collaboration in infrastructure, clean energy, high-tech agriculture, digital transformation, and semiconductor production. Japan’s support was sought for integrating Vietnam into the global semiconductor supply chain. Human resource cooperation was also a priority, with Vietnam committing to send more workers to Japan to address its aging population. Both sides agreed to enhance conditions for Vietnamese residents in Japan, fostering their contributions to bilateral ties.
In a meeting with Ken Matsuzawa, Executive Chairman of the Japan Association for the Promotion of International Trade (FEC), both parties pledged to promote cultural exchanges and organize events to strengthen ties. Chairman, Mr.Trần Thanh Mẫn also urged continued support for the Vietnamese community in Japan.
During a discussion with Mr. Hirofumi Nomoto, Chairman of Tokyu Corporation, the Chairman encouraged the acceleration of urban rail projects in Bình Dương Province and expansion into other Vietnamese cities to develop green, modern urban areas. Vietnam and Japan’s partnership continues to deepen, reflecting shared cultural values and mutual interests across multiple sectors.
