Vietnam Connect Forum 2024: Transforming Hai Phong into a “Green City” with a Sustainable Green Economy

The Vietnam Connect Forum 2024 and the 23rd Golden Dragon Awards were held on April 10 in Hai Phong, co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam Economic Times, and Hai Phong People’s Committee.
Speaking at the forum, Hai Phong Party Secretary Mr. Lê Tiến Châu highlighted Hai Phong’s position as a national leader in green growth strategy implementation. Over the past decade, Hai Phong has consistently ranked among Vietnam’s top-performing cities in socio-economic development. The DEEP C Industrial Zone and Nam Cau Kien Industrial Zone have pioneered eco-industrial development in Vietnam. Mr. Châu reaffirmed the city's commitment to becoming a model "green city," based on a sustainable green economy. Hai Phong aims to strengthen its competitiveness and become a dynamic, clean, and livable city that attracts domestic and international investors.

Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Trần Hồng Hà emphasized the importance of a nationwide transition to a green economy, calling for investment in renewable energy, technology research, digital transformation, smart urban development, and environmental protection. The Government, he noted, remains committed to listening to businesses and providing global mechanisms to support this transition.
The forum, themed “Vietnam Toward a Sustainable Green Economy: From Government Strategy to Local and Business Initiatives”, included two key sessions:
  1. Expert Presentations and Discussions on green transformation strategies by international and domestic experts, government officials, and business leaders.
  2. Golden Dragon Awards Ceremony: Recognized the top 50 outstanding FDI enterprises across six sectors, including manufacturing, digital technology, financial services, infrastructure, healthcare, and agriculture.
Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Department of Climate Change, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Vietnam Economic Times to raise awareness and support Vietnam’s Net-Zero goals.
With a focus on fostering green growth and sustainable development, the forum showcased Hai Phong’s potential as a leading "green city" and a hub for innovative and eco-friendly economic practices.
