Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Duc Tho meets with PSA International Group (Singapore)

On the morning of January 22, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyễn Đức Thọ received and worked with PSA International Group (Singapore) during their visit to explore investment cooperation in seaport infrastructure in Hải Phòng.

Welcoming PSA International to Hải Phòng, Vice Chairman, Mr.Nguyễn Đức Thọ shared information about the city’s socio-economic development achievements as well as its strengths, investment environment, and investment potential. Regarding the sector PSA International is interested in, he emphasized that the Hải Phòng international gateway port plays a particularly important role in Vietnam’s seaport system, facilitating direct exports and imports from the North and across the country to markets in Europe and the Americas.

The two initial berths of the Hải Phòng international gateway port, which have already been put into operation, can accommodate vessels of up to 160,000 tons, further reinforcing the city’s role as the largest transportation hub for import-export goods in the North. Berths 3, 4, 5, and 6 are scheduled to become operational in the first quarter of 2025, with additional berths under construction. Especially noteworthy is the Southern Hải Phòng Coastal Economic Zone, covering approximately 20,000 hectares, which has been approved by the Vietnamese Government. This zone includes a free-trade area with breakthrough policies and mechanisms, connecting with other coastal economic zones to drive the development of the Red River Delta. Mr.  Nguyễn Đức Thọ expressed confidence that, given the strong development of the Vietnam-Singapore strategic partnership, the relationship between Hải Phòng and Singaporean businesses will continue to grow. Hải Phòng pledges to create favorable conditions and to accompany businesses in their process of surveying, investing, and operating in the city.

Congratulating Hải Phòng for achieving double-digit economic growth for several consecutive years, Mr. Tan Say Eng, Vice President in charge of Investment and Business Development for Southeast Asia at PSA International, emphasized that PSA is a leading global port operator and also manages the world’s largest transshipment hub and container port cluster. In its strategy to expand operations in northern Vietnam, PSA recognizes Hải Phòng as one of the most promising locations for seaport cooperation. This visit to Hải Phòng opens up many opportunities for collaboration between the two sides. Leveraging its expertise and valuable experience accumulated over many years of working with local partners, PSA will share with the city its knowledge to develop world-class port ecosystems and provide innovative supply chain solutions to support the transition towards sustainable trade.
