On the morning of February 06 (equiv. to January 06th of the Lunar Calendar), Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Le Khac Nam, and leaders of the Department of Sports and Culture, attended the Opening Ceremony at the City’s Sports Training and Competition Center at the beginning of the New Year.

In 2021, COVID-19 pandemic’s sophistication severely impacted sport activities of the city in general and high-performance sports in particular. More than 60 tournaments in the 2021 Competition Plan of the Center were cancelled. However, thanks to the attention of the leaders at all levels, the sports organized by the City’s Sports Training and Competition Center gained 206 medals, including 51 gold medals, 60 silver medals and 95 bronze medals.

In 2022, the Center’s most important political task is to compete in the 9th National Sports Games 2022 (expected in November 2022). To accomplish that task, the Center has been urgently working with sports daily and hourly in order to well prepare the core force to be ready to practice and compete to achieve the assigned targets, striving to compete from 95-100 prizes to gain 360-365 medals of all kinds. Then, aiming to win from 23-27 gold medals at the 9th National Sports Games, and strive to have athletes stand in the national team to participate in SEAGAME 31 to be hosted in Vietnam in May 2022. At the same time, having prepared well for the Rowing and Boat Tournament at SEAGAME 31, Hai Phong City is honored to host the event.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Le Khac Nam wished the Center’s head, coaches, and athletes good health, safety, and happiness. The Vice Chairman acknowledged efforts to overcome the difficulties that the Center has encountered in the past. To prepare for SEAGAME 31, the Vice Chairman requested the Department of Sports and Culture to step up facilitation and response when Hai Phong City is designated to host a number of sport competitions. In the sake of the national flag, athletes participating in the national team have been called to actively practice, unite and coordinate with athletes in the team to bring glory to the country. Winning athletes would be rewarded by the City at a very high level, according to new regulations. In 2022, Hai Phong City will also participate in the 9th National Sports Games, hence, the Vice Chairman inquired coaches and athletes immediately practice, compete, and rub against competing teams to improve achievements, high physical strength, strive to be in the top 06 nationwide. After the tournament, the Vice Chairman requested the Department of Sports and Culture to design a sports plan to promote the potential and strengths, bringing Hai Phong to a higher level in the ongoing time.
