During his meeting with me, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized that the world and Vietnam are facing many new, complex and unstable problems. So how do we adapt and respond to those problems? This is the purpose of this collaborative framework, so that we are ready to support all needs and work together with Vietnam to most effectively respond to the rapidly changing development challenges.

– So in your opinion, how will this cooperation strategic framework help further strengthen the cooperation relationship between Vietnam and the United Nations?

Mrs. Pauline Tamesis: The signing ceremony of the Document just took place is a symbol of the United Nations-Vietnam cooperation. What we want is that through this signing ceremony, the Government of Vietnam and United Nations committed to working together to further strengthen the effective partnership. However, this is just the starting point.

We have all the time we have left this year and beyond to work together, but it is more important that we all act together in this fruitful partnership, amid The landscape is full of challenges around the world and in the region. And we need to give concrete results so that the Government and people of Vietnam can see the effectiveness of this partnership.

She recently assumed the position of Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam. Can you share your priorities during your tenure in Vietnam?m?

Mrs. Pauline Tamesis: My priorities are certainly the same ones outlined in the Strategic Framework for Sustainable Development Cooperation. A few more priorities can be summarized as follows: First and foremost, it is necessary to ensure that the United Nations can most effectively support the Government of Vietnam in implementing its commitments to the SDGs, protecting human rights and interests. people, promoting gender equality and empowering women.

People are at the center of importance and people are the driving force behind progress towards the SDGs. The young generation is the future of Vietnam, and Vietnam is a country with a young population with a lot of potential. They are and will be businessmen, government officials, and future leaders of Vietnam. Communicating with young people, listening to their views and aspirations and hearing solutions for the development of the country is really the most important thing to me.

I also want to emphasize that innovation, knowledge, foresight are the keys for us to move towards a changing world. So, if we have no knowledge, no aspiration to innovate, we cannot overcome the increasingly complex development challenges.

With that in mind, my priorities during my term of office are human rights, gender equality, youth and innovation.

– What results do you expect from the Strategic Partnership Framework?

Mrs. Pauline Tamesis: I think we all want to see a more empowered community of stakeholders, not just about commitments, but also taking action to ensure that there are no vulnerable groups, no disadvantaged communities. what is left behind in the prosperity that Vietnam is aiming for.

– How do you evaluate the commitment and efforts of the Government of Vietnam in promoting sustainable development and improving people’s living standards?

Mrs. Pauline Tamesis: The first measure of the Government’s commitment is always in the issued policies. Policies that are people-centred, policies that protect and ensure the most vulnerable are not left behind.

The second is in how these policies are concretized into government investment in the fields of economic and social development.

And the third is the involvement of the Government in reaching out to the people in consultation, working with many communities to be able to bring about development and I know this is happening, especially very strongly in the country. provincial level. So we are happy to know that our work is actually going very well.

– How do you evaluate the prospects of Vietnam in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, for the happiness of the people of Vietnam and the world?

Mrs. Pauline Tamesis: I think that Vietnam has a very good track record in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and achieving many targets of sustainable development. However, there are many crises that are affecting not only Vietnam, but also the whole world.

So a lot of the resources that would have gone to the Sustainable development goals has now been partially moved for more urgent cases. But, this in turn allows building the necessary systems to promote SDG implementation.

That’s why I say crisis is an opportunity to build and transform better systems, and also an opportunity for us to ensure that no one is left behind in the development of the land. country.

– Would like to thank you so much!
