With the aim to create a level playing field and an ideal environment for all the people who love the Korean language, the 7th Korean Language Contest - Hai Phong in 2021 has been officially launched. The Final Round is expected to be held on November 27, 2021 in Hai Phong. The event promises to be an opportunity for Korean language lovers to demonstrate their language abilities, from which the message of solidarity, cultural exchange and friendship between Vietnam and Korea will be spreaded and cultural exchange with the Korean community living and working in Hai Phong will be promoted.
From 2020 to 2021, despite the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic in many aspects such as economy, culture, social life and international exchanges of the country as well as the city, Hai Phong has basically controlled the pandemic and maintained the stability of production, business and people’s safety through drastic policies and measures of the city's leadership. Accordingly, the 6th Korean language contest in 2020 was organized and achieved great success. Despite many difficulties and challenges in the context of the epidemic, the contest’s organizing committee has been making great efforts to be able to maintain and successfully organize the 7th contest this year.
Looking back on the achievements of previous exams, the Korean language contest was first held in 2015 under the initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Union of Friendship Organizations with the cooperation of the Korean Association in Hai Phong. 05 excellent contestants have passed the preliminary and interview round to participate in the final round. As a final result, Le Thi Thuy Hoa from Dong Yong Hai Phong Electronic Co., Ltd. with the presentation "Little Angel in Multi-cultural Family - The Bridge of Friendship Connection" won the first prize with a trip to Korea worth 25 million VND. The first contest’s great success created a premise for the Organizing Committee to continue with the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th contest. The contestants who won prizes in the previous contests so far have become excellent employees of Korean companies in Hai Phong or are studying at universities in Korea. They have become the ambassadors to promote the image of the country, people and city with international friends through movements of learning and applying foreign languages. At the same time, the friendship and cooperation relationship between the localities of Korea and Hai Phong has been promoted through the usage of Korean language to communicate, exchange, exchange culture, share experiences in the development of the two countries.
Since the 6th contest, to ensure fairness of the contestants’ qualification, the organizing committee has divided the contestants into two groups. A group of candidates at intermediate and advanced levels with fluent Korean communication skill and are able to deliver rich content through their essays. A group for candidates elementary level, with basic Korean communication skills about everyday life and are able to deliver basic content through their essays. The prize value and number of finalists have also increased compared to previous years. The Korean contest of Hai Phong has always been highly appreciated and supported by the Korean Embassy in Vietnam and the Korean Association in Hai Phong to maintain and develop the contest even in the midst of the difficult context at present.
The 7th Korean Language Contest with the theme "Vietnam - Korea cooperation:Together we can overcome the Covid-19 pandemic" promises to be an opportunity to find out many talented and potential candidates in Korean language. Since the official launch up to now, hundreds of candidates from schools and Korean language centers in the city have registered to participate in the contest. The result for preliminaryround is expected to be informed on 15/11/2021.The interview round is expected to be held on November 20. The organizing committeehas been implementing the best preparation for the rounds to take place safely and effectively. One special thing in this year’s contest is that in addition to the support of Korean Embassy in Vietnam and Korean Association in Hai Phong, it is an honour for the organizing committee to have the companionship of Representative Office of Division of Overseas Korean Education in Viet Nam. This represents the continuous efforts of the Organizing Committee in connecting and attracting the participation of Korean officialorganizations in education and also demonstrates for the spread of good values that the contest have brought back throughout the years.
