During the welcoming ceremony, Doan Hai Tuan, chairman of TC-HICT Port's member council, emphasized that the event serves to affirm that the terminal has become a magnet for import and export activities in the northern region. Foreign investors therefore feel secure when setting up their factories in Hai Phong and provinces around northern key economic zones thanks to a reduction occurring in logistics costs, with goods being directly transported to the United States and Europe without having to wait for transshipment at foreign ports, he noted. Since Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal welcomed its first container on May 13, 2018, it has since enjoyed rapid growth and welcomed several large shipping lines in the world. In May, 2019, the terminal received a super tonnage ship with a capacity of 12,000 TEU on the voyage to the West Coast of the United States. In addition, it welcomed the 500,000th TEU in 2020 and the one millionth TEU on November 9, 2022.Since February, the port has continuously welcomed new service routes from several major shipping lines with cargo throughput, reaching more than 120,000 TEUs. Furthermore, it also set a new record for cargo throughput on the mother vessel MSC Beijing that runs on MSC's Santana trans-Pacific route, with 10,556 TEUs of cargo on August 15.
