Strengthening Friendship and Comprehensive Cooperation Between Hai Phong and Lao Localities

On the morning of August 23, Mr. Le Tien Chau, Member of the Central Party Committee, Secretary of Hai Phong’s Party Committee, and Head of Hai Phong’s National Assembly Delegation, welcomed and held discussions with a delegation from the Lao Peace and Solidarity Committee led by Mr. Sommad Pholsena, Vice President of the Lao National Assembly and Chairman of the Lao Peace and Solidarity Committee.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Uong Chu Luu, former Vice Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly and Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee; Mr. Dao Trong Duc, Head of Hai Phong’s Fatherland Front; Mr. Hoang Minh Cuong, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong People’s Committee; and leaders from relevant municipal departments, agencies, and friendship organizations.

In his remarks, Mr. Le Tien Chau warmly welcomed the Lao delegation to Hai Phong, introducing the city’s strategic geographic location, robust infrastructure—including five modes of modern and synchronized transportation—an advanced port and international airport system, a favorable investment environment, and stable political security. These advantages have enabled Hai Phong to achieve outstanding economic and social development, making it a prominent destination for foreign direct investment in Vietnam in recent years.

Discussing the city’s collaboration with Lao localities, Mr. Chau emphasized that Hai Phong has continuously strengthened its traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation with Lao provinces, particularly in the current era. The city has actively exchanged information, promoted awareness of the unique Vietnam–Laos relationship across the political system and among citizens, and deepened its ties with Vientiane and Oudomxay provinces.
Additionally, Hai Phong has implemented effective education cooperation initiatives, including providing Vietnamese language training and higher education for over 100 Lao students. The city has also fostered vibrant people-to-people diplomacy, with key contributions from the Hai Phong Union of Friendship Organizations and the Hai Phong Vietnam–Laos Friendship Association. These efforts have strengthened the friendship between Hai Phong and Lao localities, ensuring that collaboration remains substantive, practical, and impactful across various fields.
 
 
 
Looking ahead, Mr. Chau proposed that Hai Phong and Lao localities maintain and expand their friendship and cooperation. This includes organizing mutual visits, sharing experiences in socio-economic development, enhancing education and training partnerships, establishing mechanisms for information exchange, and promoting people-to-people diplomacy through collaborative activities by friendship associations and organizations from both sides.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Sommad Pholsena expressed his gratitude for Hai Phong’s warm and respectful reception. He also commended the city’s impressive achievements in socio-economic development and expressed hope for further collaboration between Hai Phong and Lao provinces in areas such as education and training, cultural exchanges, trade cooperation, and people-to-people diplomacy in the future.
