On August 7-8, the city leadership delegation led by Mr. Le Tien Chau, Central Committee Member of the Party, Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Head of the Hai Phong City People's Council Delegation, attended the 2024 Hai Phong Investment Promotion Conference in China and met with the leadership of Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. Present at the meeting were Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, Consul General of Vietnam in Guangzhou, China; members of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee; and leaders of various departments and sectors of the city.
At an investment promotion conference in China, attended by over 300 businesses from Vietnam and China. Marking the 75th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations, the event highlighted Hai Phong’s strong partnerships with cities like Tianjin, Nanning, and Kunming, Shenzhen.
Hai Phong currently hosts 405 Chinese investment projects totaling $6.14 billion, with two major industrial zones (An Duong and Do Son) operated by Chinese enterprises. These companies generate $5.34 billion in annual exports, employ 58,000 workers, and significantly contribute to the city’s development. Hai Phong also showcased its strengths, including the Ding Vu-Cat Hai Economic Zone, Vietnam's most successful, and a new 20,000-hectare green southern coastal economic zone. The Vietnamese Consul General in Guangzhou lauded the event, highlighting Vietnam's participation in 16 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and its attractiveness to foreign investors, especially from Guangdong.
Later, Hai Phong's delegation met Shenzhen leaders, including Party Secretary Mr. Manh Pham Loi, who praised Hai Phong’s development parallels with Shenzhen. Highlighting Shenzhen’s transformation into a global economic hub, he expressed eagerness to collaborate with Hai Phong on Party-building, investment promotion, human resource development, and tourism.
Hai Phong Party Secretary Mr. Le Tien Chau emphasized the city’s industrial growth, including 14 operational industrial zones and plans for 15 more. He proposed reopening direct flights between Hai Phong and Shenzhen to boost investment and tourism and welcomed scholarships for Hai Phong students to study in Shenzhen. Both sides affirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in various fields, with Hai Phong inviting Shenzhen leaders to visit the city to further strengthen ties.
