On the morning of October 25, the Department of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with Amazon Global Selling Vietnam, organized the conference "CEO Forum - Soaring Globally with Amazon." The event was attended by Mr. Hoàng Minh Cường, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee, along with representatives from various departments, agencies, and nearly 120 local businesses.
In his welcoming speech, Mr. Hoàng Minh Cường praised and acknowledged Amazon Global Selling Vietnam for partnering with the Department of Industry and Trade to organize the conference. He emphasized that this was a valuable opportunity for local businesses to raise their awareness about cross-border e-commerce, gain insights from regional export experiences, and learn from industry experts. The aim was to encourage and support businesses in expanding their international operations and bringing Vietnamese products and brands to global customers through cross-border e-commerce. Mr. Cường urged Amazon Global Selling Vietnam to continue supporting Hai Phong’s exporting businesses in enhancing their export activities via the Amazon e-commerce platform.
The Vice Chairman also affirmed the city’s recognition of the importance of e-commerce and cross-border e-commerce in trade promotion and import-export activities. In recent years, the Hai Phong Party Committee and the People's Committee have directed local departments to develop and implement various programs and plans for e-commerce development. The Department of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and other relevant agencies, has organized many conferences to raise awareness and enhance skills in applying e-commerce and cross-border e-commerce among local businesses.
During the conference, delegates listened to representatives from Amazon Global Selling Vietnam provide an overview of cross-border e-commerce and the journey of selling on Amazon. Additionally, a discussion panel titled "The Journey of Accompanying Vietnamese Businesses in Cross-Border E-Commerce with Amazon" was held. Representatives from Amazon Global Selling Vietnam also provided direct consultations, answering questions related to participating in cross-border e-commerce with Amazon. Nearly 20 local export businesses had booths showcasing their products, attracting attention from many delegates and businesses.
According to the Vietnam E-Commerce Index Report by the Vietnam E-Commerce Association, it is estimated that Vietnam’s e-commerce sector will grow by over 25% in 2023 compared to 2022, reaching a total value of USD 25 billion, with online retail sales accounting for USD 17.3 billion. Cross-border e-commerce, in particular, is growing rapidly, becoming a key priority in the global economy and an inevitable trend that no country can ignore. In Hai Phong, e-commerce transactions have accounted for 16-18% of total retail sales and consumer service revenue, with an average annual growth rate of 23-25%. Each year, 55-60% of small and medium-sized enterprises in the trade sector participate in domestic and international e-commerce platforms.
However, despite the opportunities for growth and the potential to increase export turnover and market expansion through cross-border e-commerce, Vietnamese businesses, including those in Hai Phong, still face several challenges. These include a lack of information regarding foreign market regulations, insufficient skills and knowledge in marketing for cross-border e-commerce, and limitations in business orientation and brand protection within cross-border e-commerce.
