On April 28, the President of Vietnam signed Decision No. 766/QD-CTN conferring the title “Hero City” on the Party Committee, government, and people of Hai Phong City for their exceptionally outstanding and comprehensive achievements and great contributions to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.
Hai Phong will officially receive this prestigious title at the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Hai Phong’s Liberation Day, which will take place on May 13.
In 2025, Hai Phong solemnly celebrates the 70th anniversary of the city’s liberation (May 13, 1955 – May 13, 2025). Every resident of this port city takes pride and has firm faith that under the leadership of the Party, the State, the National Assembly, the Government, and the close direction of the municipal Party Committee and authorities, the armed forces and people of Hai Phong have made worthy contributions to the great national victory in the resistance war against the United States, completing national liberation and reunification.
Promoting the tradition of “Loyalty, Bravery, Determination to Win,” Hai Phong has continuously innovated and achieved significant, comprehensive accomplishments, becoming one of the leading localities in national development and modernization.
Today, Hai Phong has affirmed its role as a key national seaport city, a major transportation hub, and an international gateway in northern Vietnam. Its seaport system and transport infrastructure have been strongly invested in and have made modern, synchronized breakthroughs. Urban planning and management have seen positive results, laying a solid foundation for sustainable development. The people’s material and spiritual lives have steadily improved. Culture, education, healthcare, and science–technology have made great strides, gradually affirming Hai Phong’s position as an economic, cultural, and educational center of the Northern Coastal Region. Social welfare policies have been prioritized, and the poverty rate has significantly declined year by year.
The work of Party building and strengthening the political system has been enhanced, bringing about comprehensive and positive transformations in all areas. The effectiveness and efficiency of state management have been continuously improved. National defense, political security, and social order and safety have been maintained; the all-people national defense posture has become increasingly solid. Foreign affairs and international cooperation have been expanding, enhancing Hai Phong’s position and prestige on the international stage.
With its remarkable achievements throughout history and during the renewal process, the honorary title “Hero City” conferred by the President fulfills the aspirations of the city's government and people, and honors the indomitable spirit and tremendous contributions of the Party Committee, government, armed forces, and people of Hai Phong in the cause of national liberation, construction, and defense.
