Opportunities for Trade Cooperation between Vietnamese and Thai Enterprises

Thailand Product Week 2025 creates many new opportunities for Vietnamese and Thai businesses to expand their markets and enhance economic efficiency.

The event, organized by the Department of International Trade Promotion and the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, in coordination with the Office of Commercial Affairs of the Royal Thai Embassy in Hanoi and VINEXAD Advertising and Trade Fair Joint Stock Company, has returned to Hai Phong City after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, contributing to showcasing the city's promising potential.

Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Thailand to Vietnam, stated:

“The decision to bring Thailand Product Week back to Hai Phong after a three-year interruption demonstrates the high regard that the Office of Commercial Affairs (Royal Thai Embassy in Hanoi) has for Hai Phong’s tremendous potential in trade and investment. As one of Vietnam’s most dynamic port cities and a key economic and commercial hub, Hai Phong offers excellent opportunities to strengthen trade relations and bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Vietnam.”

To date, Hai Phong has become a reliable and attractive destination for both domestic and foreign investors. It is also one of the country’s leading localities in attracting foreign direct investment. As of now, Thailand has seven investment projects in Hai Phong across trade, industry, and housing, with total investment exceeding USD 100 million. These include businesses operating supermarkets, trading, wholesale and retail activities offering a wide range of products known for good quality and reasonable prices, trusted by Hai Phong consumers.

Thailand is currently Vietnam’s largest trading partner within ASEAN, with bilateral trade turnover in 2024 exceeding USD 20 billion and a target of USD 25 billion by 2025. Thailand Product Week 2025 in Hai Phong is one of the practical activities contributing to that goal.

Mr. Umesh N. Pandey, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Commerce of Thailand, remarked: “Participating in Thailand Product Week 2025 opens up many advantages for Thai enterprises. They should take this opportunity to access this potential market early and also work on upgrading their products to meet the demands of Vietnamese customers.”

He added: “Thailand places strong interest in Hai Phong and sees it as an area worth investing in to match its true potential. I hope that in the future, Vietnam and Thailand will support each other rather than engage in intense competition. Instead, they should collaborate and leverage their similarities to create products that meet consumer needs and ensure mutual prosperity.”

Mr. Nguyễn Văn Thành, Director of Hai Phong’s Department of Industry and Trade, shared: “Thailand Product Week 2025 in Hai Phong is not only an exhibition but also a significant event marking the strong cooperation between Thailand and Vietnam. It reflects the close connection between the two economies and their joint efforts towards building a strong ASEAN economic community.”

This year’s event features over 70 booths with participation from more than 50 enterprises and organizations, showcasing high-quality Thai products across 7 major categories including food, beverages, healthcare products, fashion, and tourism services.

On the very first day of the event, thousands of tourists and Hai Phong residents visited for shopping and sightseeing. This turnout affirmed the strong public interest in the event among local consumers and tourists.

Ms. Ngô Ánh, a resident of Ngo Quyen District, Hai Phong, shared:

“I found many unique and high-quality Thai products here. After visiting various booths, I purchased many essential items such as durable clothing and footwear from Thailand.”

Beyond that, Thailand Product Week 2025 serves as a platform for Vietnamese and Thai businesses to interact, learn from each other, and expand their markets through customer networking and product development collaborations. This opens new cooperation opportunities to boost bilateral import-export turnover between Vietnam and Thailand and strengthens business-to-customer engagement as well as long-term trade and investment ties between the two countries, especially with Hai Phong City.

Mr. Salingyod Apinunmahakun, CEO of API Products Co., Ltd., said: “By attending Thailand Product Week 2025 in Hai Phong, I hope to find more partners to distribute our products in Vietnam. Additionally, I want to better understand Vietnamese consumer preferences to improve our products and meet local demand.”
