As part of the “shool library renovation” project by the Happy Tree Organization from South Korea at Hai Thanh Primary and Secondary School in Duong Kinh District, fostering a reading culture in schools has become a crucial aspect of the nation’s cultural and educational development. It is also an essential task in achieving the broader objectives of the education sector in this new phase. Hai Thanh Secondary School, in collaboration with the Happy Tree Organization, organized a training session on book reading guidance skills. The event attracted nearly 90 teachers, along with more than 20 delegates from management agencies and experts from Happy Tree.
During the seminar, teachers and librarians were trained in professional skills, including understanding the psychological development of students, guiding reading, storytelling, promoting reading, and stimulating curiosity and creativity in students. This training aimed to cultivate students’ reading interest, enhance reading skills, and foster a desire to read. Additionally, the seminar discussed the expectations for librarians, urging them to continuously innovate in ways that align with the specific conditions of their school libraries.
The participating teachers and librarians gained a better understanding of the importance of reading culture, how to make reading more effective, and how to build and nurture a reading culture within their schools.
After the seminar, the school and Happy Tree organized the second competition to select outstanding book reading guides. The selected teachers were offered the opportunity to receive further training and professional development at Jeju Island, South Korea, funded by Happy Tree.
