On the afternoon of February 2 (the 5th day of the Lunar New Year), the Hai Phong Department of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Hai Phong Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese, held the “Homeland Spring 2025” Program to welcome overseas Vietnamese and their families.
The event was organized under the direction of the City Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Phong. Attending the program were Mr. Le Anh Quan – Standing Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee; Mr. Hoang Minh Cuong – Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong – Deputy Head of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs; Mr. Nguyen Van Lang – Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese; representatives from departments, agencies, and related units, along with nearly 500 overseas Vietnamese and their families from various countries and territories around the world.

Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee Hoang Minh Cuong delivered a speech at the event.
In his remarks, Vice Chairman Hoang Minh Cuong shared with the overseas Vietnamese community the city’s outstanding socio-economic achievements over the past year. In 2024, Hai Phong continued to shine as a national leader in economic growth and development, recording a GRDP growth rate of over 11%. Most major economic targets were met or exceeded. The city’s infrastructure—seaports, airports, and urban transportation—continued to receive significant investment, contributing to the transformation of the city's landscape, enhancing its appeal to foreign investors, expanding urban space, and strengthening connectivity with neighboring provinces.
Cultural and social activities were actively promoted across the city, enriching the spiritual lives of the people. These achievements were made possible thanks to the unity and tireless efforts of the political system and the entire society, including the valuable and important contributions from the overseas Vietnamese community in general and Hai Phong expatriates in particular.
Vice Chairman Hoang Minh Cuong expressed his hope that in 2025, the overseas Hai Phong community will continue to support and contribute to the city's development according to their capacities and resources, helping to strengthen trade and tourism connections between Hai Phong and other localities and international organizations. He especially encouraged the younger generation of overseas Vietnamese—well-educated, dynamic, and creative individuals—to help enhance the image of Vietnam and their homeland within the multicultural societies in which they live.
He affirmed that the city always welcomes and listens to the suggestions and proposals of overseas Vietnamese in the effort to build a more civilized and sustainable Hai Phong.
The gathering took place in a warm and joyful atmosphere, filled with festive songs celebrating the Lunar New Year, national progress, and the collective spirit of Vietnamese people both at home and abroad striving for development.
On this occasion, two individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee for their contributions to the city’s social welfare efforts in 2024./.
