National Assembly’s Committee on Science, Technology, and Environment Committee conducted survey on the implementation of domestic solid waste management regulations and policies in the city

On the afternoon of July 8th, the working delegation of the National Assembly’s Committee on Science, Technology, and Environment Committee led by Mr. Le Quang Huy, member of the Party Central Committee and the National Assembly’s Standing Committee, Head of Science, Technology, and Environment Committee, had a meeting with the City People’s Committee on the implementation of household solid waste management regulations and policies in the city in the 2016-2021 period. The delegation was received by Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Vice Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People’s Committee, accompanied by leaders of relevant departments, agencies and localities.

There are now 4 units handling urban domestic waste collection and treatment at Trang Cat and Dinh Vu solid waste treatment areas; 972 groups in the rural residential areas in which waste is processed at Dinh Vu, Trang Cat and Minh Tan solid waste treatment areas.

Currently, domestic solid waste has been treated in the following measures: sanitary landfill (62%), for microbial fertilizer manufacturing (4%), burning in small scale (2%) and dumping into temporary waste places (32%).

At the meeting, Mr. Le Quang Huy recognized the city’s current achievements and on time issuance of documents on prices of collecting, transporting and treating urban and rural domestic waste with no incident related to urban domestic waste during the period of 2016-2021. He agreed with the city on its drawbacks and requested the city’s measure to tackle them as well as to effectively implement regulations on solid waste management complying with 2020 Environment Law.

As for the city, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung informed the comprehensive Project on domestic solid waste collection, transportation, and treatment in the city area during the period of 2022-2025, vision to 2050, which is submitted to the City People’s Council for approval at its mid-2022 regular meeting. The Project proposed specific tasks and measures on solid waste management stages from the waste source to final processing phase./.
