Logistics Industry: Great Employment Opportunities

The Vietnam Logistics Association forecasts that the demand for human resources in Hai Phong will be about 369,000 workers by 2025 and 460,000 workers by 2030, making logistics an attractive industry for workers. However, according to many experts, to be truly successful in this potential field, workers not only need to be equipped with professional knowledge and skills, but also need to have a professional working spirit and attitude, meeting the strict and specific requirements of the industry.

Strict requirements

Mr. Nguyen Duc Dan - Customer Service Department employee of a container repair service company in Minh Phuong Dinh Vu Industrial Park (Hai An District). On average, Mr. Dan's company receives about 500 to 1,000 empty containers and goods every day. Every day, Mr. Dan and his colleagues receive and update the damaged status of the container and the repair price to the shipping line's system within 12 to 24 hours from the time the customer returns the container to the yard. Mr. Nguyen Duc Dan said that customers' requirements for container repair services are increasingly high, the service provided must be fast, of good quality, but the price must be low. In terms of time, customers require the work to be completed according to the contract commitment from 12 to 24 hours after returning the container without paying attention to other arising factors. Therefore, Mr. Dan and his colleagues often work at high intensity, even on days off to complete the assigned work. According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Economics - Vietnam Maritime University, Director of the Mekong - Japan Sub-regional Logistics Training Center in Vietnam, Vice President of the Hai Phong Logistics Association, the current logistics workforce can be divided into 3 groups: employees (fresh graduates, simple workers) who are able to perform a specific task (customs declaration, data entry, etc.); Managers (who are able to assign work to team members, handle situations that arise when employees carry out their work) and experts (those who are able to anticipate situations that arise in logistics activities to be able to advise businesses on solutions to those problems, limiting financial losses for businesses). However, with the unique characteristics of the logistics industry including diversity (a collection of many activities that require workers to have diverse knowledge and skills); complexity (the process of transporting goods often encounters many problems and risks, requiring workers to be able to handle situations flexibly); globality (communication and working with foreign partners with different language, culture, and legal characteristics) ... According to the Director of Boom Logistics Trading and Service Company Limited (Hai An District) Tran Thi Ha, the future of the logistics industry will be a combination of AI (artificial intelligence) and human resources to optimize performance.

Continuous training and self-training

According to forecasts, by 2025, the total output of goods through the Hai Phong seaport area can reach 112 million to 120 million tons. The rapid increase in the amount of goods passing through the port has led to an increasing demand for the logistics service industry in the city. However, according to the forecast of the Vietnam Logistics Association, the human resources of this industry are still quite lacking, nearly 370 thousand workers in 2025 and 460 thousand workers in 2030. As one of the earliest and most systematic training centers for logistics in the country, it is estimated that each year, Vietnam Maritime University trains about 1 thousand human resources in logistics and related industries to supply the market. According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc, along with the regular college and university training system, master's and doctoral programs, and college-to-university transfer programs, Vietnam Maritime University is currently implementing a regular advanced university program specializing in logistics, taught entirely in English with the main program exploiting the model of the California International Maritime Academy (USA). In addition, this training system also imports advanced international training programs in logistics to equip and update the latest knowledge and skills for human resources in the logistics industry. Along with that, the Mekong-Japan Sub-regional Logistics Training Center under the Vietnam Maritime University also opens short-term logistics training courses for students of the school and other schools or even working people, serving the needs of businesses... With a practice warehouse fully equipped with machinery and equipment for the training process, these training courses will help students have both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. However, according to Dr. Duc, along with the school's training, units and workers in the logistics industry need to have a serious working attitude and high responsibility. Only then can they meet customer requirements and job tasks.
