On the morning of April 9, Hai Phong Eye Hospital held the launching ceremony of the program "Journey of Light" to provide free cataract surgery for people in the city sponsored by Yunnan Province, China.
Attending the program, on the Chinese side were: Mr. Thach Thong Xuyen, representative of Yunnan Provincial Foreign Affairs Department - Head of the delegation; Mr. Ly Ba, Deputy Director of the Hospital affiliated to Yunnan University; and doctors and medical staff members of the working delegation.
On the city side, there were: Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Dung, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Tran Quoc Trinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Health; and leaders of Hai Phong Eye Hospital, Hai Phong City Ophthalmology Association.
The program "Journey of Light" to provide humanitarian eye surgery for cataract patients of the city is an activity with noble humanitarian meaning in taking care of community health and supporting patients in difficult circumstances. With the attention of leaders, authorities, and relevant agencies between the two localities, as well as the support from the team of doctors and experts from Yunnan province (China), patients in Hai Phong city will have the opportunity to approach leading experts in Ophthalmology in Yunnan province, along with advanced and modern medical techniques in cataract treatment, bringing high efficiency and safety to patients.
The program takes place at a time when both countries are actively implementing many practical cooperation activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China and the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year, demonstrating the symbol of friendship, sharing and sustainable cooperation between Hai Phong city and Yunnan province (China), as well as between Vietnam and China.
At the program, 100 patients in difficult circumstances were examined, consulted and treated for cataract surgery; Hai Phong Eye Hospital received experience transfer in screening and cataract surgery from experts from the Hospital under Yunnan University, China. The program took place from April 8 to April 12, 2025. Hai Phong and Yunnan are two localities with deep friendship over the years, cooperation in many fields has been promoted and developed, achieving positive results. In the medical field, the two localities have successfully coordinated to organize 02 "Journey of Light" programs in 2019 with 170 surgeries, creating a premise to continue implementing the 3rd "Journey of Light" program in 2025./.
