On August 23 in Hai Phong, Mr. Le Tien Chau - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee received a delegation of the Lao Peace and Solidarity Committee led by Mr. Sommad Pholsena - Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Lao Peace and Solidarity Committee, on the occasion of the delegation's visit and work in Vietnam.
At the meeting, Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Tien Chau informed about Hai Phong's outstanding socio-economic achievements in recent times. Despite facing many challenges, the city has maintained double-digit growth for 9 consecutive years, and 2024 is expected to mark a decade of this achievement.
With the advantage of diverse transport infrastructure, including roads, waterways, railways, aviation and seaports, Hai Phong has become an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investors. The city's investment environment is always among the top in the country thanks to its political stability and social security, creating a solid foundation for long-term development.

Regarding relations with Laos, Hai Phong has built extensive cooperative relations with localities such as Vientiane and Oudomxay provinces. These cooperations have achieved many good results in many fields from Party and government building to education, health care, and trade and investment.
In the field of education, there are currently about 124 Lao students studying at universities and graduate schools in Hai Phong. All of these students received scholarships from the city, demonstrating Hai Phong's special interest in training human resources for Laos. The city also focuses on the spiritual life of Lao students, through exchange activities and gift giving on holidays, helping them feel close and cozy even though they are far from their homeland.
Regarding people-to-people diplomacy, the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Hai Phong city is considered one of the largest and most regularly operating associations. The association has organized many meaningful programs such as: cultural exchanges, organizing traditional New Year for Lao students, honoring former volunteer soldiers and experts who worked in Laos, revisiting old battlefields... These activities not only strengthen the affection between the two peoples but also deeply connect the friendly relations between Hai Phong and Lao localities.
Mr. Le Tien Chau expressed his gratitude to the Lao leaders and people for always accompanying and supporting Hai Phong, especially in searching for and collecting the remains of Hai Phong martyrs who died in Laos. He affirmed that Hai Phong is ready to share experiences and knowledge in socio-economic development with Lao localities.

At the meeting, Vice President of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Lao Peace and Solidarity Committee Sommad Pholsena highly appreciated Hai Phong's development achievements and considered this a valuable lesson for Laos in the process of socio-economic development. He expressed his joy at seeing Hai Phong's special attention to Lao students studying abroad. This has helped Laos train many generations of capable cadres who are currently actively contributing to the country's development.
Mr. Sommad wished to strengthen cooperation with Hai Phong in areas such as poverty reduction, agricultural development, and improving people's lives. Laos pledged to create favorable conditions for investors from Hai Phong in particular and Vietnam in general, and hoped to receive support in socio-economic development experience from the city.
