Japanese Enterprises Explore Investment Opportunities in Hai Phong

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Group is exploring opportunities to invest in and develop new potential projects, and has consistently identified Vietnam, especially Hải Phòng, as a destination with abundant potential and investment opportunities.

This was stated during a recent working session between the leadership of Hải Phòng City and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (Japan).

At the meeting, commenting on Hải Phòng’s investment environment, Mr. Norio Abe – Executive Director of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines – said that Mitsui O.S.K. Lines is one of the world’s oldest and largest shipping companies. In Hải Phòng, the Group has implemented the MVG chemical warehouse project at DEEP C Industrial Park through a joint venture with HTM, GoldenLink and VISECO. The Group has also proposed investing in industrial real estate, specifically the Cầu Cựu Industrial Park project in An Lão District.

Regarding Hải Phòng’s investment potential and advantages, Mr. Lê Tiến Châu – Secretary of the Hải Phòng City Party Committee – said that Hải Phòng is a centrally governed city with special advantages in geographic location, streamlined investment procedures, and outstanding economic growth, achieving double-digit growth for ten consecutive years. With such potential and advantages, Hải Phòng is an attractive destination for investors seeking to expand investment scale and find opportunities for effective cooperation.

On the proposal to implement the Cầu Cựu Industrial Park investment project, Secretary Lê Tiến Châu stated that Hải Phòng City always facilitates procedures and accompanies businesses in compliance with legal regulations and the city’s development orientation of advanced technology and environmental friendliness. At the same time, he hoped that the Group would study and accelerate the commencement of the project.

Secretary Lê Tiến Châu also suggested that Mitsui O.S.K. Lines consider opening a branch in Hải Phòng and enhancing cooperation in logistics—a strength of the Group—to increase freight transport capacity and meet the city’s growing future needs.

Responding to Hải Phòng’s proposal, Mr. Norio Abe said the Group is currently exploring opportunities to invest in and develop new potential projects and has always recognized Vietnam, especially Hải Phòng, as a destination with great potential and investment opportunities. Following the meeting, the Group will focus on promoting effective cooperation between the two sides, especially in logistics as suggested by the city leadership.

It is known that, regarding Japanese investors in Hải Phòng, Japan has become one of the city’s most important partners. Japanese investment projects mainly focus on machinery, boilers, electrical machinery, electrical equipment, plastics and plastic products, rubber, etc., mainly located in JapaneseHải Phòng Industrial Park, VSIP Industrial Park, and DEEP C Industrial Park. Notable projects include those from Bridgestone, Rorze Robotech International, Kyocera, among others. In addition, many important infrastructure works in Hải Phòng bear the hallmark of Vietnam–Japan friendship and are strategic infrastructure projects that have driven Hải Phòng’s strong development in recent years.

Mr. Lê Trung Kiên – Head of the Hải Phòng Economic Zone Management Authority – said that for Hải Phòng City, Japan has become an important partner in many fields such as environment, educationtraining, healthcare, and agriculture. Hải Phòng is focusing on developing the southern coastal economic zone of the city as a green, ecological zone aligned with international ESG trends and greenhouse gas reduction goals – Net Zero – with outstanding preferential policies to attract foreign investors, including those from Japan.
