Italian Delegation Surveys Tilapia Farms in Hai Phong to Promote Good Aquaculture Practices

Within the framework of ASEAN-Italy cooperation, an Italian delegation, in coordination with the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance, will conduct a working visit and field surveys at tilapia farms in Hai Phong City on February 9, 2026. This is a significant activity aimed at technical exchange and evaluating the feasibility of implementing pilot models for sustainable aquaculture.

Promoting ASEAN-Italy Technical Cooperation The activity is conducted following a proposal from the ASEAN Secretariat to discuss technical topics related to Good Aquaculture Practices (GAqP) and small-scale fisheries. The primary objective of the survey is to assess the current status of tilapia farming facilities, thereby determining the appropriate timing to deploy local GAqP pilot activities.

The Italian delegation consists of leading aquaculture and institutional policy experts from the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies in Bari (CIHEAM Bari), including Mr. Andrea Adriano Giorgio, Mr. Roberto Ugolini, and Ms. Ludovica Nardelli. Representatives from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Hanoi will also join the mission.

Surveying Representative Aquaculture Models in Hai Phong According to the plan approved by the City People's Committee, the delegation will begin its work at 09:30 AM on February 9, 2026, at two representative sites:

  • Xuyen Viet Fisheries Production and Trade Cooperative: Located in Phuong Khe Hamlet, Gia Phuc Commune, Hai Phong.
  • Doan Tien Toan Aquaculture Facility: Located in Dai Dinh Hamlet, Tan Ky Commune, Hai Phong.

At these locations, experts will directly observe production processes, exchange experiences with local farmers, and evaluate the technical standards currently in application.

To prepare for the visit, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Van Quan directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to lead the arrangement of locations and coordinate closely with the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance throughout the reception.

Additionally, the Department of Foreign Affairs is tasked with leading the coordination with the City Police and the local authorities of Gia Phuc and Tan Ky communes to provide guidance and manage matters related to foreign elements. This ensures that the working trip complies with legal regulations and achieves high professional efficiency.

This event not only opens opportunities for Hai Phong fishermen to access modern farming technologies but also contributes to enhancing the position and brand of the city's seafood on the map of international cooperation.
