Investment Promotion Workshop of Hai Phong city in Korea

On the morning of August 24, Hai Phong City and KCCI co-hosted the Investment Promotion Workshop of Hai Phong City in Seoul to attract Korean investors to Hai Phong.

Attending the workshop were about 50 representatives of Korean companies who were interested in investing in Hai Phong City. Those companies are doing business in the fields of trade, logistics, manufacturing, construction, finance and insurance, science and tech, and telecommunication. After the group photo session, investment certificates were given to representatives of three companies including Jeil, Posco and Krems. The workshop continued with opening remarks by Mr. Park Dongmin, Senior Vice President of KCCI, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of Hai Phong City People’s Committee, and Mr. Nguyen Viet Anh, Deputy Ambassador of Vietnamese Embassy.

The aforementioned speeches have pointed out the strength, advantages and potentials of Hai Phong City on the way to welcome the foreign investment flows including Korean investment. As the Deputy Ambassador mentioned, Vietnam is one of Korea’s three big partners that highly interested Korean investors. Besides, Vietnam and Korea have shared common interests in current concerns including climate change, economic security, and high-tech development. Moreover, Vietnam has implemented different measures and reformed investment environment to call for Korean’s investment. Particularly, the two countries have upgraded their relationship to a high level, which is the comprehensive strategic partnership. This will open up more room and opportunities for cooperations and mutualsupport in coming time. In that context, Hai Phong is the top leading number of Korean investment projects. According to accumulated statistics, in Haiphong city, there are 173 projects with a total investment capital of about 10 billion USD from Korean investors. Hai Phong city is ranked 6th in attracting foreign direct investment thanks to its convenient transport system that has facilitated industrial and service development, including logistics facility and services. Korean investment has made great contribution to Hai Phong city’s economic and social development.

Mr. Le Trung Kien, Chief of Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority gave a speech introducing Hai Phong with investment environment of the city. He underlined that besides the city’s advantages, Hai Phong has continuously improved investment and business environment.

The workshop was continued with the speeches of representatives of Korean enterprises whose are doing business in Haiphong to emphasized the key factors that enable their business in Haiphong successfully are the effective and timely support and cooperation of City’s government.

At the end of the workshop, many Korean investors have attached great importance to business consideration with Vietnamese partners. The workshop was a great opportunity for the both sides’ enterprises to meet and to understand each other for future cooperation.

After the workshop, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to Lotte Corperation to discuss on Lotte’s investment in Haiphong. The aforementioned activities has contributed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of establishment of Vietnam and Korea relationship./.
