India Film Festival 2025: Bringing Bollywood to the Port City

On the evening of January 21, the Hai Phong Department of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Vietnam, solemnly held the opening ceremony of the India Film Festival 2025 at Galaxy Nguyen Kim Cinema (104 Luong Khanh Thien, Ngo Quyen District, Hai Phong). Running through January 24, the event promises to offer movie lovers in the Port City a rich cinematic experience—with free admission for all screenings.

In the opening remarks, a representative from the Department of Foreign Affairs emphasized the significance of the event in fostering cultural exchange between Vietnam and India, as well as strengthening the friendship between the people of the two nations—particularly between Hai Phong City and Indian localities. The festival is also a meaningful activity in celebration of the 75th Republic Day of India (January 26, 1950 – January 26, 2025), a historic milestone for the South Asian nation.

This year’s festival introduces Hai Phong audiences to a variety of acclaimed Indian films, showcasing the diversity of Indian cinema—all with Vietnamese subtitles. Kicking off the festival is the epic action film RRR (Rise Roar Revolt), a tale of two heroes fighting for independence, highly anticipated by local audiences. Over the course of the festival, moviegoers will also enjoy three other celebrated films:

  • English Vinglish – a touching story about a woman’s journey to rediscover her self-worth,
  • Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – a lighthearted yet profound exploration of friendship and self-discovery,
  • and Dangal – an inspiring film about overcoming prejudice to triumph on the international wrestling stage.

All screenings during the festival are free of charge, making Indian cinema more accessible to a wide range of viewers. To facilitate attendance, the organizers have set up a simple online ticket reservation system via QR code available on the official Facebook pages of the Hai Phong Department of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of India in Vietnam. Once reserved, attendees can present their confirmation email at the Galaxy Nguyen Kim ticket counter to receive their tickets. With its modern screening rooms, Dolby 7.1 surround sound, and professional service, Galaxy Cinema promises a top-tier film-viewing experience.

India Film Festival 2025 is not only an opportunity for Hai Phong residents to explore the beauty of the seventh art through Bollywood cinema—it also serves as a platform for cultural exchange and community connection between local citizens and the Indian community living and working in Vietnam. Through this initiative, the festival contributes to enhancing the Vietnam–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reaffirming both sides’ commitment to promoting cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchange.
