*LG Corporation and its Korean business partners in Trang Due Industrial Park donated 30 billion VND to Hai Phong’s Covid-19 vaccine fund.

On the afternoon of July 9th, Hai Phong city’s leaders worked with Korean Embassy to Vietnam’s delegation at Hai Phong convention center.
Attending the meeting were representatives of central agencies: Mr. Nguyen Manh Tien, Vice Director of National Assembly’s Committee on External Relations; Mr. Duong Quoc Anh, Vice Director of National Assembly’s Committee on Economy; Mr. Nguyen Vu Tu, Former Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea.
The Korean Embassy’s delegations was headed by Mr. Park Noh Hwan, Korean Ambassador to Vietnam with the participation of representatives of Korean Enterprise Association in Vietnam, KOICA Vietnam, KF Fund, KOTRA, Korean Association in Vietnam and Korean enterprises.
The working delegation were received by Mr. Tran Luu Quang, Member of Central Party Committee, Secretary of Hai Phong Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of Hai Phong People’s Committee; leaders of Hai Phong’s Vietnamese Fatherland Front, Office of the municipal Party Committee, Office of the municipal People’s Committee and representatives of agencies of the city.

Mr. Tran Luu Quang, Member of Central Party Committee, Secretary of Hai Phong Party Committee and other delegates witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between Hai Phong city and the Korean Embassy in Vietnam.
In the atmosphere of formality and intimate friendship, Mr. Tran Luu Quang, warmly welcomed Mr. Park Noh Hwan as well as all distinguished guests to the working session. He wished the delegation health, happiness and success. Secretary Quang emphasized that Hai Phong city had established and maintained close relations with Korean Embassy to Vietnam and other foreign agencies of Korea over the past time. This meeting aimed at fostering the cooperative ties between the two countries in general and those between Hai Phong city and Korea in particular. On behalf of the city, he also expressed his delight at the fact that there had been an increasing number of Korean enterprises choosing Hai Phong as their investment destination and achieving successful performance, greatly contributing to the development of the city. The Secretary voiced his hope that Korean enterprises would continue to develop in scope and witness even more successes in the future. Besides economic development, he would like to create more cooperation opportunities with Korean side in education – training and cultural exchange.

The delegates expressed their opinions on such topics as boosting cultural and educational exchange, solving Korean enterprises’ difficulties while operating in the city. To be specific, Korean side would like to support the city in launching Korean into official teaching program among high schools; assist in training and enhancing the city’s Korean teacher’s teaching capacity; develop scholarship program in Korea for students; organize exchange programs to learn more about Korean culture. In the field of investment and manufacturing, representatives of the delegation mentioned 4 key issues: fastening residence visa issuance for Korean experts working in Hai Phong; removing obstacles in ODA reception procedure in building Hai Phong hospital; soon getting vaccinated against Covid-19 and keeping the same privileges when seperating LG Chem from LG Display Company.

From contents discussed, Secretary Nguyen Luu Quang paid interest in recommendations made by the delegation in which he highly valued the initiatives of teaching Korean in high schools in the global trend of integration these days, expecting to open new developing path in the future, especially when Hai Phong had been a good investment choice of multiple Korean investors. He requested the city’s agencies and units to research on this issue.

Given the 4 issues concerned by enterprises, the Secretary gave clear points as following. First, as the issuance of residence visa for Korean experts working in Hai Phong was the responsibilities of Vietnam Immigration Department (Ministry of Public Security) and was conducted in line with regulations of current laws, the city would discuss to accelerate the issuance process by simplify procedures. Second, regarding the obstacles in ODA reception in building Hai Phong hospital basing on the 2017 cooperation framework, Mr. Tran Luu Quang assigned relevant agencies to find out the reasons and solutions needed to soon relaunch the project. Third, as for the request of Covid-19 vaccine access for Korean enterprises’ workers in the city, the distribution of vaccine was managed by central agencies, besides which Hai Phong city was not the prioritized locality in vaccination due to its successful combat against the pandemic. Therefore, he would like the Korean Embassy to consider measures supporting vaccine supplying for the city in order to soon fulfill Korean enterprises’ wish.

Addressing the working session, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of Hai Phong People’s Committee made brief on the Government approval of Trang Due Industrial Park stage 3 construction covering an area of 700 hectares. He asked Korean enterprises to broaden business scope and cooperative opportunities in Hai Phong. It was his hope that the direct flight route between Hai Phong and Busan would soon be opened to faciliate the two side connection in multiple fields.
Ambassador Park Noh-wan, thanked the city’s leader for the warm reception, sincere and specific sharings. In order for a thriving corporation between Hai Phong city and Korean, Mr. Ambassador committed to support the city in such fields as high technology, creative innovation, smart city building, developing Hai Phong into the North’s center of economy, culture, education and tourism.

At the meeting, under the witness of all attendees, Chairman Nguyen Van Tung and Ambassador Park Noh-wan signed a memorandum of understanding on fostering exchange avtivities in education and culture in Hai Phong between Hai Phong People’s Committee and Korean Embassy to Vietnam.
