Hai Phong to become among Asia’s leading cities

Government approves city’s adjusted master planning.

The northern port city of Hai Phong is expected to become one of the most developed cities in Asia and the world by 2050 under its renewed master planning.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has signed a decision approving adjustments to the planning.

During the 2045-2050 period, Hai Phong is to become a leading city in the country in terms of modernization and industrialization and a growth driver of the northern region and of the country as a whole.

It will have modern, smart, and sustainably-developed industry and a modern transport network connecting it with other localities inside the country as well as with other countries.

The city is also expected to become the leading maritime economic center of the country and a hub of service, high technology, tourism, education and training, science and technology, and healthcare in the northern coastal region.

It targets building high-tech agriculture zones in Kien Thuy, An Lao, Tien Lang, Vinh Bao, and An Duong districts.

Its population is to reach 2.8-3 million by 2030 and 3.9-4.7 million by 2040.

The urbanization rate is projected to increase to 74-76 per cent by the end of this decade and 80-86 per cent by 2040.
