Over 10 years of official commercial power generation, by the end of 30/6/2021, total electricity output that Hai Phong Thermal Power Joint Stock Company has generated to the national grid reached nearly 62 billion kWh, thus making an important contribution to ensure the national energy security as well as the local socio-economic development.
Change of the difficult land
Hai Phong Thermal Power Plant was built on the bank of Bach Dang River in Tam Hung Commune of Thuy Nguyen District of Hai Phong under the investment, management and operation of Hai Phong Thermal Power Joint Stock Company - a part of Power Generation Corporation 2 (EVNGENCO 2). In the past, this place was an alluvial area along the river where the soil was contaminated with alum, causing only reeds and parrots to grow in. Since the Plant was built and put into operation, the land has changed. The reeds made room for salt fields and new urban areas to gradually be formed. Thanks to that, the people’s dream of a better life has gradually come true.

According to Mr. Duong Son Ba - General Director of Hai Phong Thermal Power JSC, in 2005, Hai Phong Thermal Power Plant No.1 was built and put into operation in 2011; in 2014, Hai Phong Thermal Power Plant No.2 was completed and connected to the national power grid. After 10 years of official commercial power generation, total electricity output that Hai Phong Thermal Power Joint Stock Company has generated to the national grid reached nearly 62 billion kWh, thus meeting the electricity demand for socio-economic development of the country in general and the Red River Delta region in specific. In particular, the project has come with a change to the socio-economic development of the locality, especially the residents living in the area where the plants were built.

High efficiency in the electricity market
In 2020, the company was assigned a plan to generate 8.150 million kWh by EVNGENCO 2 which was a very high target compared with the design of 7,200 million kWh when Covid-19 epidemic had a direct impact on all aspects of social life. Many businesses had to stop or moderate production. To overcome these difficulties and challenges, many solutions have been drastically implemented by the Board of Directors.

“The maintenance and repair had been completed as planned, the market forecast and offer closely had followed the weather situation and market movements, therefore, in the dry season months, the generating units were with high availability while the system's mobilization demand increased, the company took advantage of the market’s good price, the generating units have been exploited to the maximum capacity, thus the revenue and profit of the company exceeded the plan," said Mr. Duong Son Ba.
With good management, cost savings, qualified electricity market staff and high market analysis ability, the electricity output offered in the market reached a high price and the company's pre-tax profit reached 163% of the plan. 567 billion VND was paid to the State budget. This is the highest profit of the company since its establishment. At the 2021 Annual Shareholder General Meeting, the shareholders approved the dividend at 24.25% of charter capital while the first planned dividend was 10%.
According to Mr. Duong Son Ba, the company's current staff working in the electricity market has become more and more professional in capturing information and analyzing the market, proactively providing operating and repairing scenarios of the power units to ensure the achievement of 2 goals: Ensuring profits and increasing revenue. As a result, in 2020, the profit from the electricity market accounted for 38.7% of the total profit of the company, which demonstrated the effective search for profit from the electricity market in the company's production and business plan.

In 2021, the company planned total revenue of nearly 8,979 billion VND and target profit before tax was 210 billion VND, down nearly 18% and 86% respectively compared to the results of 2020. In the context of the complicated development of Covid-19, especially in the first months of 2021, social distance was implemented in many localities, and the production situation of enterprises declined. Ensuring the dual goal was not easy for the company in particular and other production enterprises in general.
Under the situation, the company determined that the goal of 2021 was to ensure the safe and economic operation of the generating sets. It is necessary to ensure that the production costs are covered; improve the equipment’s readiness based on good repair, maintenance and overhaul on time; complete the consumption norms, economic and technical indicators; implement digital transformation for cost savings, costs reduce, and improvement of equipment maintenance’s quality; implement environmentally friendly sustainable development together with obeying the provisions of the environment’s law. Jobs, stable income, healthcare and safety for employees during the epidemic season should also be ensured.
