Hai Phong: Strengthening Cooperation with Danish Enterprises

Hai Phong is ready to create favorable conditions and provide support for Danish businesses to conduct surveys and explore opportunities for business and investment cooperation in the city.

Chairman of the Hai Phong People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, emphasized the city’s strategic location in northern Vietnam, featuring a well-developed infrastructure system and inter-regional and international transportation connectivity. Hai Phong is home to the largest seaport system in the North and is preparing for the implementation of high-speed railway projects.

Additionally, Hai Phong is actively establishing more industrial parks to attract new investors. The Government has recently announced the establishment of the Southern Coastal Economic Zone in Hai Phong, creating favorable conditions for the development of projects such as airports, the Nam Do Son Port, free trade zones, industrial parks, economic clusters, and new urban areas.

In recent years, Hai Phong has consistently been a standout destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam, attracting a total investment of over USD 34 billion. However, there are currently no Danish FDI projects in Hai Phong that reflect the full potential and cooperative opportunities between the two sides.

Ms. Louise Elholm, Member of the Danish Parliament, Chair of the Economic and Trade Committee, and President of the Liberal Party, expressed her sincere thanks for the city’s thoughtful reception.

The Chairman of the People's Committee expressed his hope that following this working session, in her capacity and position, Ms. Louise Elholm will actively support the promotion and strengthening of cooperative relations between Hai Phong and Danish partners and enterprises. The priority areas include investment, trade, green transition, digital transformation, tourism, industry, and logistics.

During the meeting, Ms. Louise Elholm expressed her appreciation for the city’s warm welcome and was impressed by Hai Phong’s double-digit growth rate over the past decade, affirming its position as a promising investment destination.

She highlighted that Denmark is one of the pioneering countries in green transition, renewable energy, and climate change mitigation planning—fields that align closely with Hai Phong’s strategic goals of sustainable development, green growth, digital transformation, and innovation. She believes that this visit will help concretize potentials and opportunities into practical cooperation projects that will benefit both parties.

In response to the delegation’s proposals for enhanced cooperation in renewable energy, green transition, and high-quality human resources, the Chairman assigned the Department of Foreign Affairs to act as the focal point to coordinate with relevant agencies to provide specific information on the areas of interest. He also suggested that the Danish side designate a contact point to coordinate with Hai Phong’s authorities to further promote trade and support cooperative efforts between Danish and Hai Phong businesses.

Hai Phong remains committed to facilitating and supporting Danish enterprises in conducting surveys and seeking business and investment cooperation opportunities in the city.

In the near future, the city will develop the Southern Coastal Economic Zone covering 20,000 hectares, designed to follow a green and ecological model, which will offer great advantages to investors. The zone will also come with special mechanisms and policies that benefit both enterprises and investors. The city looks forward to welcoming businesses to expand their operations in Hai Phong.

According to the Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority, in order to build investor trust, the city is continuing to reform administrative procedures, promote infrastructure development, and commit to clear timelines and responsibilities in land clearance, offering practical support to investors and enterprises.

The city is also focused on developing a high-quality, skilled labor force, while continuing to implement support measures for FDI enterprises with respect to site selection, planning, land use, environmental issues, labor, and fire prevention and control.
