Hai Phong: January 2026 Economy Flourishes with Impressive Growth Indicators

In January 2026, the socio-economic situation of Hai Phong city maintained a stable growth trend, with 08/08 key economic indicators meeting or exceeding the set scenarios. This is the result of decisive direction from city leaders since the beginning of the year to successfully implement the 2026 socio-economic development plans. The Industrial Production Index (IIP) in January is estimated to have increased by 36.2% compared to the same period last year, with the processing and manufacturing industry leading the way with a 38.78% increase.

Investment attraction also recorded positive figures:

  • Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): Reached 412.68 million USD, a 69% increase compared to the same period in 2025, completing 101% of the monthly plan.
  • Domestic Investment Capital: Reached over 24,228 billion VND as of January 24, 2026.
  • Business Development: There were 921 newly registered enterprises, an increase of 46.19% compared to the January scenario.

Total state budget revenue in the area by the end of January reached 24,210 billion VND, up 28.3% over the same period last year and reaching 12.4% of the estimate assigned by the Central government. Within this, domestic revenue reached more than 16,346 billion VND.

The goods market was vibrant in preparation for the 2026 Binh Ngo Lunar New Year with abundant supply and no shortages or price spikes. Total retail sales of goods and service revenue were estimated at 35,499 billion VND, an increase of 14.82%. Export activities also reached a turnover of 4,500 million USD, up 27.08% over the same period.

The city's tourism industry continued to attract a large number of visitors with 850,000 arrivals in January; the New Year holiday alone welcomed and served over 515,600 visitors. Regarding the labor market, the city successfully organized 08 job transaction sessions, attracting 85 business participations with a recruitment demand for up to 28,240 workers. Additionally, care for policy subjects, people with meritorious services, and the poor during Tet was implemented thoughtfully with increased support levels.

The situation of political security and social order and safety in the area was maintained, ensuring safety for important political and cultural events. The city aims for an economic growth rate (GRDP) of 12% in the first quarter of 2026. To realize this goal, the City People's Committee requires all levels and sectors to focus highly on public investment disbursement, striving to reach 100% of the assigned capital plan. Simultaneously, administrative discipline and order must be tightened, and the mottos “choosing work to do; doing the easy and leaving the difficult; working just to get it done; working for the sake of coping” must be completely eliminated.

Furthermore, the city is urgently completing procedures to start several key projects, such as the Tien Lang 1 Industrial Park, Tien Lang Airport (Zone B), and inter-regional connection roads to create new growth momentum.
