Hai Phong Homeland Spring 2026: Aspiration for Development and Steady Steps into the New Era

In the bustling atmosphere of preparing for the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year, on February 9, 2026, the program "Meeting with Hai Phong Overseas Vietnamese and Relatives - Homeland Spring 2026"was solemnly and warmly organized in the Hai Phong Port City. The event was an occasion for city leaders to pay tribute to the significant contributions of the overseas Hai Phong community while strengthening the bond between expatriates and their roots.

The program was attended by key city leaders: Pham Van Lap (Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city), Hoang Minh Cuong(Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee), along with representatives from the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese and nearly 400 expatriates and their relatives. Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman Hoang Minh Cuong reviewed the breakthrough socio-economic achievements of Hai Phong in 2025. The city continued to maintain a high growth rate, completed synchronous transport infrastructure with seaport and smart city projects, and affirmed its position as a leading investment bright spot in the country. City leaders emphasized that every citizen living abroad is an important "ambassador" promoting the image of the Port City to the world.

A highlight of this year's program was the large participation of young overseas Vietnamese, intellectuals, and exemplary entrepreneurs. Representing the younger generation, Mr. Tran Bao Huy (National Taiwan Ocean University) expressed pride in the powerful changes of his hometown and his desire to serve as a bridge to bring knowledge, clean technology, and modern management solutions back for application in the city. To maintain cultural identity and the Vietnamese language, the Liaison Association for Overseas Vietnamese presented Vietnamese language teaching books to the community right at the program. The ceremony's atmosphere became even more special with colorful artistic performances presented by artists who are expatriates and their relatives.

The year 2025 recorded an impressive contribution from the overseas community, with remittances transferred to the city reaching over 360 million USD, actively supporting production, business, and social security. Entering 2026, Hai Phong has high expectations for key projects such as:

  • Operating a Free Trade Zone associated with the establishment of the Southern Coastal Economic Zone.
  • Developing a high-speed railway.
  • Attracting investment and technology transfer from major international markets.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Mrs. Tran Thi Quynh Trang (Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs) expressed sincere gratitude to the overseas community—the "fire-transmitters" who carry the image of a dynamic Hai Phong to the world. The city pledges to continue innovating and improving the efficiency of support activities so that every time citizens return, they feel appreciated and convenient, as if returning to their own home. The program concluded in joy and a spirit of solidarity, affirming that no matter where they are, the hearts of Hai Phong people are always directed toward their homeland, joining hands to build an increasingly civilized and modern city.
