Hai Phong Gains Momentum from Transport Infrastructure Development

Key transportation projects underway in Hai Phong City are expected to provide new momentum to drive local economic development in the new era.

At the construction site of Tien Thanh Bridge, part of the investment project to build a road from Provincial Road 354 in Tien Lang District to National Highway 10 in Vinh Bao District, construction units are working urgently to accelerate progress and ensure the project is completed in time to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Hai Phong’s liberation.

In early 2025, hundreds of workers and engineers immediately resumed work, diligently operating at key transportation projects across Hai Phong City to accelerate implementation and put the projects into operation as soon as possible.

Racing Against Time on Construction Sites

At the construction site of the bridge over the Hoa River and the section of the road from Thai Binh City to Nghin Bridge passing through Hai Phong, after completing the installation of the final beam and bridge surface on the Vinh Bao side in January 2025, multiple construction teams quickly resumed work right after the Lunar New Year holiday. With high determination and enthusiasm, the investor, contractors, and related units are working to complete the project on schedule.

The project aims to shorten travel time between the provinces of Thai Binh and Nam Dinh and Hai Phong City and Quang Ninh Province, reducing pressure on the existing National Highway 10. In addition, it enhances traffic safety, reduces accidents, and facilitates investment attraction, contributing to the socio-economic development of neighboring localities.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Dai, a supervisor from CONINCO Inspection and Construction Certification Joint Stock Company, shared: “Before the 2025 Lunar New Year, 90% of the bridge structure had been completed, with only the asphalt layer on the bridge surface remaining. We expect to complete that in February or early March when the weather improves. The road section is about 75% complete. Right after the holiday, all teams returned to work on February 3 (the 6th day of the first lunar month). We have resumed the next phases, focusing on laying the foundation layers. With this pace, we expect to reach the milestone of technical traffic clearance on May 13, marking the 70th anniversary of Hai Phong’s liberation.”

Mr. Phan Van Tinh, a worker on the same project, added: “We are working in 3 shifts with 4 rotating teams to ensure timely progress. Even in cold and rainy weather, we are doing our best to fulfill the assigned tasks.”

Similarly, at the construction site of Tien Thanh Bridge, part of the road connecting Provincial Road 354 in Tien Lang District to National Highway 10 in Vinh Bao District, the sound of machinery has been constant for months. Workers remain energized and determined to complete the project on schedule.

Opening the Path to the Open Sea

With its potential and advantages as a coastal port and industrial city with all five modes of transportation, Hai Phong has led the way in recent years by allocating significant resources to transport infrastructure development.

It is estimated that from 2016 to 2020, Hai Phong mobilized nearly VND 44 trillion to invest in transportation infrastructure. Since 2021, numerous major transport projects have been started, implemented, and put into use, making vital contributions to the city’s socio-economic growth.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee, emphasized that these key infrastructure projects have played an essential role in strengthening connectivity between Hai Phong and neighboring provinces. As a result, Hai Phong’s development space has expanded, enabling the city to reach out further to the sea.

In the context of deepening international and economic integration, developing and completing transport infrastructure plays a crucial role in fostering balanced regional development. It is also vital for improving the business environment, enhancing competitiveness, attracting investment—particularly foreign direct investment—and developing infrastructure. At the same time, expanding transport infrastructure helps address pressing social issues, especially the rising demand for transportation.

Mr. Do Tuan Anh, General Director of the Hai Phong Transport Construction Investment Project Management Board, stated that in order to accelerate progress, the board has required contractors to stay focused, act decisively, and maintain a spirit of “overcoming sun and rain,” working in “three shifts, four rotations.” He also stressed the importance of urging consultants and contractors to plan workforce allocation scientifically and reasonably, and to care for the living conditions of workers and laborers on site.
