Hai Phong City always encourages domestic and foreign investors to participate in investing in infrastructure construction, especially maritime infrastructure and seaports.

Central leaders and delegates press the button to inaugurate Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port
As one of the key economic development centers of the country, in recent years, Hai Phong City has promoted the role and advantages of seaports. Many deep-water port projects have been invested, built and put into operation, helping this locality quickly become an important link in the regional logistics chain.
Accordingly, recently, the project of berths No. 5 and No. 6 of Lach Huyen Port Area, Hai Phong City, with the transaction name of Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port (HHIT), was officially inaugurated and put into operation. The project, invested by Hateco Group, is the first deep-water port infrastructure development project in Vietnam from capital sources of the private economic sector. This is also a historical milestone of the Vietnamese maritime industry, which is of great significance in promoting international trade, creating momentum for economic development in the Northern region and the whole country.
Mr. Tran Van Ky - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hateco Group said that immediately after receiving the Prime Minister's Decision, Hateco urgently focused all resources, coordinated with contractors, domestic and international consulting and supervision units to drastically and synchronously deploy work items in accordance with legal regulations... The project started construction in August 2022 and was completed 2 months ahead of schedule. The official operation of Hateco Hai Phong Port is of great significance for a private enterprise like Hateco in contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
It is known that with a scale of nearly 73 hectares, of which the main wharf is 900m long and the barge wharf is 300m long, HHIT is capable of receiving the two largest container ships in the world at the same time, with an operating capacity of 2.2 million TEU/year. Here, technical infrastructure and data infrastructure operate in parallel to ensure comprehensive real-time control, helping to control all activities quickly and accurately.
Evaluating this project, Danish Ambassador Nicolai Prytz affirmed that Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port is a strong example of cooperation and innovation in the effort to build an optimized and efficient seaport. The project is an important contribution to Vietnam's green transformation goal, with a priority focus on sustainability, through modern green technologies, automation systems and a commitment to prioritizing environmental sustainability and emission reduction, while strengthening the green and trade strategic partnership between Denmark and Vietnam.
In fact, Hai Phong City is the locality with the fastest seaport development rate in the country with the top growth in cargo throughput through the port. In particular, Lach Huyen port area is planned to function as a gateway combined with international transit, with container terminals, general cargo terminals, bulk cargo terminals, liquid cargo terminals, gas terminals, international passenger terminals, and public service terminals. This area is planned to be able
to receive container ships up to 18,000 TEU, general cargo terminals, bulk cargo terminals up to 100,000 tons, liquid/gas cargo terminals up to 150,000 tons, passenger ships up to 225,000 GT.
According to the plan, by 2030, Lach Huyen port area will have from 13 to 16 ports, including 14 to 18 wharves, meeting the demand for cargo throughput from 61.4 million tons to 90 million tons.
Assessing the potential of this area, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho - Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee said that following the success of terminals No. 1 and No. 2, many investors have continued to pay attention and invest in the next terminals in Lach Huyen wharf area. Terminals No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 have been invested in construction. Terminals No. 7 and No. 8 are being accelerated in investment preparation, expected to start construction in 2025.
"Hai Phong City always encourages domestic and foreign investors to participate in investing in infrastructure construction, especially maritime infrastructure and seaports in Lach Huyen area", Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho emphasized.
It is known that along with the HHIT port coming into operation, recently, at terminals No. 3 and 4 of Lach Huyen Port, TIL Hai Phong Port International Port Company Limited (HTIT) also organized to welcome the first test ship of Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A (MSC). The ship named M/V GREENVILLE, Maltese nationality, 272 meters long and 93,787 DWT, is expected to unload 2,043 TEU of cargo. This is the first ship to handle cargo at berth No. 3 after 5 days of opening. According to the Business Forum, HTIT is a joint venture between Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL) - one of the world's leading port operators under MSC. MSC's choice of HTIT to test the first ship demonstrates the company's special interest in the infrastructure, services and operational capacity at Hai Phong Port.
