Hai Phong: Collaborating with international experts to demonstrate high-efficiency and low-emission rice cultivation models

On February 25 and 26, 2026, Hai Phong City will cooperate with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) to organize a series of training and demonstration events on advanced rice cultivation models to promote sustainable agriculture. This is a central activity of the "Fertilizer Right" Project currently being implemented in the locality. The event is divided into two main phases, taking place at the Huu Chung Cooperative and the Tan An Commune People's Committee hall.

Practical Field Activities in Tan An Commune

The program includes specific sessions designed to provide both theoretical and practical knowledge:

  • Afternoon of February 25: A training class on "Right Fertilization" will be organized. Delegates and farmers will be updated on the "4 Rights" fertilization principle (right type, right dose, right time, and right way) and mechanized direct seeding techniques combined with fertilizer burial from senior experts.
  • Morning of February 26: A field demonstration of mechanized row seeding combined with fertilizer burial will take place at Huu Chung Cooperative's field. This model aims to improve economic efficiency while simultaneously reducing greenhouse gas emissions in rice cultivation.

Participation of International Organizations and Leading Experts

The event is expected to attract about 60 delegates, including leaders from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, representatives from the US Embassy in Vietnam, the New Zealand Embassy in Vietnam, and international organizations such as the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV).

Notably, the IRRI expert delegation working in Hai Phong includes 06 international members. Key participants include:

  • Ralph Bean and Mr. James Yi: Agricultural Counselor and Attaché of the US Embassy.
  • Jongsoo Shin: Regional Director for Asia at IRRI.
  • Experts in soil science and cultivation techniques from Madagascar, the Philippines, and Taiwan.

Directives from the City People's Committee

To ensure a successful and safe event, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Van Quan has assigned specific tasks to functional agencies:

  • Department of Agriculture and Environment: Lead coordination with Tan An Commune to prepare the program and work directly with the IRRI expert delegation.
  • Department of Foreign Affairs: Responsible for guiding and performing required foreign affairs procedures for the international participants.
  • City Police: Ensure absolute security and safety for the delegation and delegates throughout the event.

The implementation of high-efficiency and low-emission rice cultivation in Tan An commune not only helps farmers access modern agricultural technology but also affirms Hai Phong City's commitment to green economic development and deep international integration.
