Hai Phong and Shenzhen Exchange Experiences and Strengthen Economic Cooperation
On August 5, during a working visit to Guangdong Province, China, a delegation from Hải Phòng, led by Mr. Lê Tiến Châu, Secretary of the Hải Phòng Party Committee, visited and held meetings with key organizations in Shenzhen, including the Shenzhen General Chamber of Commerce, Shenzhen University, the China Special Economic Zone Research Center, and Shenzhen Holdings Investment Corporation. The delegation included officials from Hải Phòng's Party Committee and leaders from various municipal departments.
At a meeting with the Shenzhen General Chamber of Commerce (FSC), Mr. Lê Anh Quân, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hải Phòng People's Committee, highlighted the city’s economic potential and achievements. Hải Phòng currently hosts 975 foreign-invested projects with a total registered capital of $30.65 billion, including 405 projects from Chinese investors worth $6.14 billion. The city is planning to establish a Southern Coastal Economic Zone, including projects such as Tiên Lãng International Airport, Nam Đồ Sơn Port, and a Free Trade Zone. Hải Phòng welcomes Shenzhen businesses to explore investment opportunities, particularly in high-tech electronics, logistics, trade, and tourism. Mr. Quân emphasized Hải Phòng's commitment to supporting investors, stating, "Your success is Hải Phòng's success." FSC leaders expressed gratitude and optimism about the visit, noting FSC’s rapid growth since its establishment in 2012, with 100 member companies and total assets of approximately ¥14 trillion. They viewed the meeting as a promising start to deeper cooperation between the two cities, strengthening bilateral ties and economic development.
Later, the delegation visited Shenzhen University, a leading institution with over 40 years of history. Hải Phòng’s leadership sought partnerships between Shenzhen University and local universities to enhance workforce training, particularly for Hải Phòng’s industrial zones like An Dương, which is funded by Shenzhen investors. The delegation also toured the China Special Economic Zone Research Center. Hải Phòng's officials requested insights on managing special economic zones and free trade zones, including tax incentives, logistics integration, and streamlined licensing processes. Shenzhen experts shared their experiences and affirmed Hải Phòng’s favorable conditions for developing a Southern Coastal Economic Zone.
The delegation met with Shenzhen Holdings Investment Corporation, whose subsidiary, Shenzhen Vietnam Joint Investment Company, manages the An Dương Industrial Zone in Hải Phòng. This zone specializes in manufacturing motors, electronics, and industrial equipment. In the first half of 2024, it generated $871.17 million in revenue and employed nearly 16,700 workers.
Mr. Lê Tiến Châu praised the company’s contributions and encouraged further investment in Hải Phòng, particularly in electronics and logistics. He also proposed projects for worker housing, urban infrastructure upgrades, and waste management systems to improve the investment environment. The city pledged to create the best conditions for Shenzhen and Chinese businesses.
This visit marked a significant step in fostering economic collaboration, sharing expertise, and expanding partnerships between Hải Phòng and Shenzhen. Both sides expressed their commitment to long-term cooperation to enhance mutual development and prosperity.
