On the morning of August 30, Le Tien Chau, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, and Head of the Hai Phong National Assembly Delegation, chaired a meeting with the delegation from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. The delegation was led by Liu Ning, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Secretary of the Guangxi Regional Party Committee, and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Also attending the meeting were Ou Guoquan, Minister Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam; Do Nam Trung, Consul General of Vietnam in Nanning (China); and Le Khac Nam, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong People’s Committee.
Welcoming the delegation to Hai Phong, Secretary Le Tien Chau emphasized the city’s commitment to fostering friendly cooperation with Chinese localities, including Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Providing an overview of Hai Phong’s socio-economic development, the Secretary noted that the city currently hosts 407 investment projects from Chinese investors (including mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong) with a total capital of $6.36 billion. This ranks first in terms of the number of projects and sixth in investment capital among foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises in Hai Phong. The city is focusing on developing 20 new industrial zones covering over 7,000 hectares and has submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister to establish a Southern Coastal Economic Zone of Hai Phong, spanning approximately 20,000 hectares. This zone is envisioned as a third-generation, multi-sector ecological economic zone, focusing on high-tech industries, modern seaports, advanced logistics, and smart urban development.
Recognizing the geographical proximity, cultural similarities, and complementary development characteristics of the two regions, Secretary Le Tien Chau proposed strengthening bilateral cooperation. This includes supporting and promoting business investment in logistics, trade promotion, the construction of a standard-gauge railway line from Mong Cai – Ha Long – Hai Phong, development of supporting industries, promotion of tourism and services, workforce training, and sharing experiences in developing free trade zones. With leadership from both regions, especially the guidance of Secretary Liu Ning and support from the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, Secretary Le Tien Chau expressed confidence that the two sides would achieve fruitful cooperation in the future.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception by Hai Phong’s leaders and admiration for the city’s socio-economic achievements in recent years, Secretary Liu Ning reaffirmed Guangxi’s willingness to closely collaborate with Vietnamese localities, particularly Hai Phong. He emphasized enhancing friendly exchanges and promoting mutually beneficial and substantive cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, seaports, railways, tourism, education and training, people-to-people exchanges, and inter-party organization cooperation. He believed these efforts would deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China in the coming period.
