Enhancing Multidimensional Cooperation Between Hai Phong and Cheongju City (South Korea)

On the afternoon of April 15, Mr. Lê Anh Quân, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, welcomed a delegation from the Cheongju City government (South Korea), led by Mayor Lee Beom Seog, during their official visit to Hai Phong. Also in attendance were senior officials from various departments, agencies, and relevant organizations.

In his opening address, Mr. Lê Anh Quân expressed his pleasure in hosting the Cheongju delegation and provided a comprehensive overview of Hai Phong’s socio-economic development. He highlighted the city’s geographical advantages, robust transportation infrastructure—particularly the Lach Huyen deep-water port, Cat Bi International Airport, and the Dinh Vu-Cat Hai Economic Zone. Mr. Lê Anh Quân emphasized that, in recent years, Hai Phong has made significant strides in administrative reforms, fostering a conducive investment environment, and positioning itself as a hub for attracting foreign investment. South Korea has emerged as the leading foreign investor in Hai Phong, with 183 registered projects totaling an investment of 11.5 billion USD. Korean-invested enterprises in the city have been recognized for their operational efficiency, with many producing high-tech products, thereby contributing to the enhancement of technological and scientific capabilities in local industries. These projects have also played a key role in boosting export turnover, creating employment, and making significant contributions to the city’s budget.

Mr. Lê Anh Quân reiterated that Hai Phong is committed to further expanding its partnerships with South Korean provinces and cities. He expressed great satisfaction in establishing official cooperation with Cheongju City. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Hai Phong People's Committee and the Cheongju City government marks a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations. This MoU will serve as a framework for enhancing friendly ties and laying the foundation for the implementation of tangible cooperative projects in the future. Mr. Lê Anh Quân emphasized that Hai Phong looks forward to sharing and learning from Cheongju's experience, particularly in the realm of high technology.

Expressing his gratitude for the warm reception from Hai Phong’s authorities, Mayor Mr. Lee Beom Seog affirmed that, for South Korea, Vietnam remains one of its most important partners. He noted the many similarities between Cheongju and Hai Phong, both cities boasting international airports, strategically advantageous locations, and sizable expatriate communities. Hai Phong is recognized as a vibrant, rapidly developing city with distinct advantages in terms of geographic location and infrastructure. Mr. Lee Beom Seog expressed that this meeting would open up further opportunities for enhanced cooperation and investment, not only in the fields of economics and high technology—areas in which Cheongju excels—but also in health care, education, culture, and people-to-people diplomacy.
