Continuing the activities of the project "Advanced Wastewater Treatment System Suited for High BOD at Ngoc Hai fishing port, Do Son district, Hai Phong city".

On the afternoon of June 27th 2022, Hai Phong Department of Foreign Affairs worked with the delegation of Kitakyushu city (Kitakyushu International Techno-Cooperative Association and J-Fils Co., Ltd.) on the business trip to Hai Phong to implement activities within the framework of the project "Wastewater treatment with high BOD concentration at Ngoc Hai fishing port, Do Son district, Hai Phong city".

To support Hai Phong in solving environmental challenges, especially water pollution, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) sponsored the project "Treatment of wastewater with high BOD concentration at Ngoc Hai fishing port, Do Son district, Hai Phong city". The project aims to: gradually solve problems related to wastewater treatment; affirming the advantages and effectiveness of the CM system (a wastewater with high BOD concentration treatment technique using activated sludge bacteria utilized the catalytic action of enzyme by J-Co., Ltd.) Fils) with the recognition of Vietnamese environment agencies in general and Hai Phong city in particular. The project is planned to be implemented from 2019 - 2020 by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development as the project owner as indicated in Decision No. 3094/QĐ-UBND dated December 11st 2019 of the People's Committee of Hai Phong city. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project's activities were suspended and extended until 2022.

At the meeting, Mr. Tomoharu Asahara - Director of Kitakyushu International Techno-Cooperative Association updated on the current situation of the project. Kitakyushu immediately carried out the follow-up activities of project as soon as Japanese and Vietnamese eased the travel restrictions between the two countries. Up to now, the project has completed the installation of the system, the enzyme was put into the aeration tank, trial operationand on-site training for Ngoc Hai fishing port’s staff was carried out. Through the trial run, the CM system was operated at 50% capacity and will continue to be increased to 100% before being temporarily handed over in this August. To promote the efficiency of the system, Kitakyushu is planning to hold a technology introduction seminar with the participation of leaders of Hai Phong People's Committee, departments, agencies as well as relevant businesses in Hai Phong (tentatively in September of 2022). At the same time, within the framework of the project, Kitakyushu city will also organize a training program in October in Japan for the representatives of Hai Phong’s departments as well as the city's businesses who are interested.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong - Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs expressed her pleasure at the project’s progress. Despite facing many difficulties due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the relevant agencies of Kitakyushu and Hai Phong have worked closely together to ensure the project’s implementation as planned. She also asked Kitakyushu International Techno-Cooperative Association and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (project’s owner) to complete the necessary documents as soon as possible before handing over the system next August. For the organization of the technology introduction seminar in September 2022, she suggested that Kitakyushu side consider choosing a reasonable venue and make an effective promotion program to help the agencies, businesses and people of Hai Phong city to have a deep understanding of the superiority and usefulness of the CM wastewater treatment system.
