On the afternoon of August 25th, Mr. Tran Luu Quang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the City Party Committee, Head of the Hai Phong City National Assembly Deputies Delegation hosted a meeting with the editorial board, key staff of Hai Phong Newspaper.

Increasingly affirm the position and role
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh - Editor-in-Chief of Hai Phong Newspaper stated that over the past years, the Editorial Board, reporters and editors of Hai Phong Newspaper have always well completed the assigned political task including focusing on innovating and improving dissemination quality on its publications such as Hai Phong Daily, Hai Phong Online newspaper and Hai Phong Weekend to ensure the right principles, purposes, political orientations, public opinion guidance and the criteria of "accurate, direct and excellent content”, thus helping it to achieve positive results. From 2020 up to now, despite of objective and subjective difficulties and the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, Hai Phong Newspaper has closely followed the City Party Committee’s guidance in disseminating major national and local events, the guidelines and resolutions of the Party at all levels, thus contributing create an atmosphere of excitement among the citizen and bringing the image of the city to the national people.

Besides the achievements, Hai Phong Newspaper also recognized its limitations, difficulties and challenges that needed to be overcome. These include: the fierce competition of various types of newspapers and social networks which required the improvement of the publication’s dissemination quality; facilities and equipment have not yet met the requirements of modern journalism; the quantity and quality of staff and reporters were limited and slowness in mind change. In addition, due to the self-accounting mechanism for partial frequent expenditure, Hai Phong Newspaper had currently coped with more difficulties in this difficult situation of the printing newspapers.

In order to facilitate for the Newspaper to develop and meet the demand of political tasks in the new period, Hai Phong Newspaper suggested the City Party Committee for its directions in a number of contents, including: Approval for the implementation of the project on developing Hai Phong Newspaper to meet the demand of digital technology era; issuance of Hai Phong Daily Newspaper to the City Party Committee members who had retired and war veterans who were living in the city; additional workforce for Hai Phong Online newspaper; supportive royalties mechanism; renovation and repair the 2-storey building of the Newspaper; approval and funding support the 65th anniversary celebration of Hai Phong Daily Newspaper’s first issue on March 21th , 2022. Besides that, Hai Phong Daily Newspaper requested the Department of Finance to appraise its dossier on price increase to soon submit to the City People's Committee for its approval.

At the meeting, the members of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and relevant representatives appreciated that Hai Phong Newspaper was one of the few Party’s traditional newspapers which had always made efforts and determination to overcome difficulties to well promote its role as an information and dissemination channel of the City Party Committee and contribute to the general development of the city. The newspaper has well-trained officials and reporters with political consistency and collaborators at the central and other localities... In the coming time, it is important for Hai Phong Newspaper to pay high attention in the management, improvement of staff quality, active development of a master plan to develop Hai Phong Newspaper with the orientation of multimedia and modernity, fee collection for online newspaper reading, improvement the quality of publications such as increasing the political commentary, critical information, protection of the Party’s ideological foundation, and soon consolidation of the leadership team…

Concluding the meeting, Secretary of the City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang emphasized that despite of many difficulties in terms of facilities, income and competitive pressure in the modern newspaper trend..., the editorial board, reporters and staff of Hai Phong Newspaper had made great efforts and determination to overcome difficulties and complete assigned tasks. Hai Phong Newspaper had closely followed the orientation and direction of the City Party Committee to provide prompt information, effectively contribute to the city's development, quickly bring the Party's resolutions to life, and effectively disseminate in the prevention and control of COVID-19.

Thanks to the great efforts of reporters and staff of Hai Phong Newspaper, it is currently on top of the Party newspaper system regarding the number of printing newspapers, followers, updates on Hai Phong electronic newspapers, and fanpage. However, there is a slow innovation of Hai Phong newspaper compared to the development of modern journalism, lack of initiative and positivity in solving problems and difficulties. In the period of strong, comprehensive and outstanding development of the city in all fields, Mr. Tran Luu Quang hoped that Hai Phong Newspaper would gradually build a stronger, better, more beautiful, more creative and sharper newspaper.

Acknowledging and sharing the difficulties of staff and reporters of Hai Phong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Luu Quang emphasized that The Party Committee and the Editorial Board must have immediate and long-term solutions. Accordingly, it is important to focus on building a unified team, re-arrange the organizational structure to ensure the simplification and high efficiency, focusing on training, cultivating and improving professional qualification by various means, encourage self-study and self-research, have a mechanism to attract good editors and reporters for long-term, and focus on building and increasing its collaborators…

Regarding Hai Phong Newspaper’s recommendations, Mr. Tran Luu Quang asked Hai Phong Newspaper to focus on developing the master plan for development in accordance with the development trend of modern journalism, building human resource, facilities to meet the ever-increasing tasks and requirements for City Party Committee’s journalism agencies. Regarding immediate solutions, he agreed on the policy of increasing price and quantity of publication, expanding the objects of distribution of Hai Phong Daily Newspapers; At the same time, he assigned the Party Committee of the City People's Committee to direct functional departments to soon arrange the place for Hai Phong Newspaper Printing Limited Company to move in and hand over the entire premise at No. 8, Da Nang Street for Hai Phong Newspaper to manage and use; besides that it is necessary to create favourable conditions for Hai Phong Newspaper to renovate its headquarter and improve working conditions for staff and reporters. On this occasion, Mr. Tran Luu Quang presented Hai Phong Newspaper with 30 laptops to create more favourable conditions to support the its reporters.
