City Commits to Supporting FDI Enterprises with Practical and Effective Measures
On the morning of October 5, 2024, at the Vietnam-Tiep Friendship Labor Culture Palace, the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee held a meeting with foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises under the theme: "FDI Enterprises Partnering with Hai Phong: Innovation, Green Economy, Circular Economy, Sharing Economy; Connecting Domestic and Global Supply Chains."
The conference was chaired by Mr. Le Tien Chau, Member of the Central Party Committee, Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, and Head of the National Assembly Delegation for Hai Phong. Co-chairing the event were Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Committee, and Mr. Do Manh Hien, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee. The conference was attended by Mr. Tran Quoc Phuong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, and leaders of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). It also featured members of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, leaders of city departments, representatives of domestic and international organizations, university leaders, and over 500 FDI and prominent domestic enterprises operating in Hai Phong.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Do Manh Hien highlighted Hai Phong's remarkable achievements across various fields, attributing the progress to the unity and resilience of its people and the contributions of the business community, especially FDI enterprises. During challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, FDI enterprises not only maintained growth but also supported the city by donating tens of billions of dong for pandemic control and recovery efforts.
FDI businesses have demonstrated strong social responsibility by improving social welfare and participating in community activities. Through this conference, city leaders aimed to listen to the concerns of FDI enterprises and find appropriate solutions to create a favorable environment for their operations and growth, opening opportunities for collaboration between domestic and foreign businesses.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong emphasized Hai Phong's proactive and strategic approach to socio-economic development, including administrative reforms, investment-friendly policies, and the development of an ecosystem supporting business growth. He affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to building a fair and open investment environment for FDI enterprises.
FDI enterprises submitted 56 proposals addressing issues such as land, infrastructure, customs, labor, energy, and technology transfer. City leaders received these proposals and provided solutions in a downloadable format via QR codes for businesses to access. During the dialogue, representatives from FDI enterprises raised issues related to port logistics, workforce development, technology transfer, and public housing for workers. Specific topics included the development of the Southern Economic Zone, improving the quality of labor in electronics and semiconductors, and accelerating infrastructure projects like Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Bridge 2 and Cat Bi Airport's cargo facilities.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Le Tien Chau reaffirmed that FDI enterprises are vital partners and honorary citizens of Hai Phong. Their success is intertwined with the city's industrialization and modernization goals. The city pledged to accelerate the development of industrial parks, logistics infrastructure, and free trade zones to attract high-tech investments. Additionally, the city will focus on developing high-quality housing, international schools, and healthcare facilities to ensure a livable environment forinvestors and their families. The Secretary encourages FDI enterprises to restore operations swiftly post-Typhoon Yagi, expand production, and prioritize Hai Phong as their base of operations. This collaboration is essential for transforming Hai Phong into a leading city in Vietnam's industrialization and modernization journey.
