On the afternoon of January 21, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the Hai Phong People's Committee, welcomed Mr. Johan Ndisi, Ambassador of Sweden to Vietnam, who led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the city’s leadership. Attending the meeting were leaders from the City People's Committee Office, Foreign Affairs Department, Planning and Investment Department, and Department of Industry and Trade.
Welcoming the delegation’s visit and working session in Hai Phong, Chairman Nguyen Van Tung expressed his pleasure at the strong and growing traditional friendship between Vietnam and Sweden in general, and between Hai Phong and Sweden in particular. He shared socio-economic updates, noting that 2024 marked the 10th consecutive year Hai Phong achieved double-digit GRDP growth, making the city a bright spot in the country’s economic and social development.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tung also informed that, as of the end of 2024, Sweden has invested in 3 direct investment projects in Hai Phong with a total capital of over 48 million USD. Although modest compared to the potential and cooperation opportunities between the two sides, the Chairman expressed hope that following this meeting, the Ambassador would support connecting and promoting cooperation between Hai Phong and Swedish partners and enterprises, expanding collaboration in various sectors such as high technology, port construction, and logistics…
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception by the city’s leaders, Ambassador Johan Ndisi shared his impression of Hai Phong’s rapid development. He noted that more than 70 Swedish companies, including Ericsson, Volvo, ABB, Electrolux, and IKEA, are operating in Vietnam and are keen to maintain long-term cooperation. The Ambassador also mentioned two upcoming projects in telecommunications and recycled products that Sweden is interested in partnering with Vietnam on. Chairman Nguyen Van Tung expressed strong support for these two projects.
