Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Hai Phong’s Liberation and the Red Flamboyant Festival 2025: A Solemn Event Worthy of the City’s Status and Stature

The 70th anniversary of Hai Phong’s Liberation (May 13, 1955 – May 13, 2025) and the conferment of the title “Hero City,” held in conjunction with the Red Flamboyant Festival – Hai Phong 2025, will be organized to demonstrate the spirit of great national unity. The event will highlight the 70-year journey of construction and development, and affirm the strong will and determination of the Hai Phong Party Committee, government, military, and people to successfully implement the 13th National Party Congress Resolution and the 16th Hai Phong Party Congress Resolution.

Inspiring pride in the city

According to Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, the department is currently selecting an event organization unit and a capable team of authors and directors to design the program, scripts, and choose works and performers that suit the nature and scale of the event. The art program will reflect Hai Phong's land and people throughout history, in national defense, construction, and development, as well as the aspiration to build a city that rivals those in the region and the world. The program will be created by top artists and performers in Vietnam and structured into three thematic acts. Following the opening art segment, parade, and introductory section will be the official ceremony to receive the title "Hero City." This will be followed by two additional acts that depict Hai Phong's spirit, will, and aspiration for innovation and continuous development over the 70 years since liberation, reaffirming its new stature and image in the era of global integration, and continuing to build on past achievements in the new era — the era of national rise.

A highlight of the event will be a drone-based light performance, fireworks displays at six locations across the city, large-scale sound and lighting systems, and 100 m² LED screens at each fireworks site and outside the main event area to accommodate citizens who are unable to access the main stage.

Colonel Vuong Van Yen, Deputy Commander of the Hai Phong Military Command, said that over 20 marching blocks are expected to participate, including: city armed forces, veterans, intellectuals, workers, farmers, women, youth, entrepreneurs, and representatives of various sectors such as culture, education, tourism, and international delegates.

The anniversary and festival will take place on the evening of May 13, 2025, at the Political-Administrative Center Square in the Bac Song Cam New Urban Area, with an estimated 15,000 guests, residents, and tourists in attendance.

Urgent and thorough preparations

The city has launched an intensive emulation campaign to celebrate the 70th anniversary, calling on departments, agencies, mass organizations, and People's Committees at all levels to actively participate. Regarding gratitude and social welfare activities, the city will organize incense offering ceremonies to commemorate former Party Secretaries of Hai Phong, pay visits and present gifts to localities that were revolutionary bases of the Hai Phong Party Committee – Kien An, and honor policy beneficiary families, national contributors, former and current city leaders, intellectuals, artists, and national emulation soldiers.

Accompanying events will include: a journalism award ceremony for reporting on cultural development and building a civilized, modern Hai Phong citizenry; a city history quiz themed “70 Years of Hai Phong’s Liberation”; the publication of a photo book titled “Hai Phong – 70 Years of Construction, Growth, and Development” in Vietnamese, English, Chinese, and Japanese; as well as a variety of public information campaigns, conferences, exhibitions, fairs, contests, and meaningful sporting events.

During this time, numerous major city projects will be inaugurated or commenced; ceremonies to receive heritage rankings will be held, alongside activities promoting international cooperation and cultural exchanges.

During a site inspection on February 12, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Khac Nam emphasized that the Party Committee and People's Committee of Hai Phong set high standards for organizing the 70th anniversary and the Red Flamboyant Festival 2025. The event must be dignified, memorable, and best serve the citizens. It represents a major political occasion that demonstrates great national unity through 70 years of liberation, construction, defense, and development, while affirming the determination of the Hai Phong Party, government, military, and people to join the nation in stepping firmly into a new era — the era of national resurgence.
