Another Project for Hai Phong’s Automotive Supporting Industry

The HMT project to manufacture passive safety system components for automobiles has begun operations, marking a significant step in the company's internationalization journey.

Recently, at An Dương Industrial Park in Hai Phong City, HMT New Material Technology Co., Ltd. held the inauguration ceremony of its factory, specializing in manufacturing passive safety components for automobile systems.

The project—Production and Manufacturing of Passive Safety System Components for Automobiles—involves a total investment of USD 87 million. Once operational, the factory is expected to have a production capacity of 30.2 million airbag units (including OPW seam-free airbags), equivalent to 8,000 tons/year, and 12.5 million meters of airbag fabric (6,000 tons/year), employing over 2,000 workers.

Founded in August 2018 with USD 87 million capital from China’s Hua Mao Group, HMT Hai Phong specializes in passive automotive safety equipment and components. In August 2023, the company began construction of its 54,000 m² factory in An Dương Industrial Park. The project has now been completed and officially launched, mobilizing around 2,000 employees.

The company aims to pursue sustainable development, environmental protection, and emissions reduction. Thus, it invests in worldclass machinery and production technologies, energysaving innovations, product quality improvement, and competitive advantage.

Mr. Ngô Lê Minh, Chairman of HMT New Material Technology Co., Ltd., stated that the company will continue innovating, enhancing product and service quality, and striving to generate more value for customers. The company also seeks close cooperation with partners for mutual growth and contribution to the industry's development.

“The completion of the new plant not only marks a solid stride in our path to internationalization but also proves our group's determination and strength in deploying to the global market,” said Mr. Ngô Lê Minh.

Mr. Lê Trung Kiên, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board, evaluated that the rapid construction and completion of the HMT plant contribute to Hai Phong's socioeconomic development and hold significant meaning in commemorating 75 years of Vietnam–China relations.

In recent years, Hai Phong’s economy has grown strongly, with GRDP achieving double-digit growth for ten consecutive years. In 2025, the central government assigned a target of 12.5% growth for the city. Achieving this requires contributions from enterprises, including HMT and companies in Hai Phong's industrial parks and economic zones. Going forward, investors are urged to continue operating effectively, sustainably, and fully complying with Vietnamese law.

Mr. Kiên also noted that China is a key partner of Vietnam and Hai Phong across various sectors. With its dynamic economy, Hai Phong consistently ranks among Vietnam’s top cities for investment attraction. Hai Phong welcomes and supports Chinese businesses in investment and cooperation across sectors such as investment, trade, education, and high-quality human resource development.

“As the state manager for industrial park enterprises, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board commits to accompany and fully support businesses to maintain production and sustainable growth,” added Mr. Kiên.

To date, Hai Phong has attracted over 1,000 foreign direct investment projects from 42 countries and territories, including 452 projects from Chinese investors (mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao), totaling USD 6.52 billion. Chinese investment primarily focuses on manufacturing, infrastructure, and realestate, and trade.
